- Las baladas de Beleriand es el tercer volumen de la serie de trece libros denominados La historia de la Tierra Media en los cuales se analizan manuscritos sin publicar de J. R. R. Tolkien. Fue editado por Christopher Tolkien en el año 1985, y contiene los dos poemas principales en los que su padre se ocupa de las leyendas de los Días Antiguos: La balada de los hijos de Húrin y La balada de Leithian (también llamada Liberación del cautiverio); cada una de ellos en dos versiones diferentes, así como otros tres poemas menores. - Les Lais du Beleriand (titre original : The Lays of Beleriand) est un livre de textes de J. R. R. Tolkien publiés à titre posthume par son fils Christopher. Il constitue le troisième volume de l’Histoire de la Terre du Milieu. Paru en 1985, sa traduction française, assurée par (poèmes) et Daniel Lauzon (commentaire et notes) sous la direction de Vincent Ferré, a été publiée chez Christian Bourgois Éditeur en mai 2006. Ce volume comprend notamment les deux longs lais composés par J. R. R. Tolkien, soit Les Enfants de Húrin (Voir sur Wikidata) (1920-1925), en vers allitératifs, relatant l'histoire de Túrin Turambar, et le Lai de Leithian (1925-1931 puis 1949-1950), en tétramètres iambiques (transcrits par des octosyllabes dans la traduction française) rimés, relatant l'histoire de Beren et Lúthien. Ces deux poèmes, qui existent chacun en deux versions, sont restés inachevés, mais la première version compte dans les deux cas plusieurs milliers de vers. Il contient également d'autres poèmes plus courts, notamment des versions inachevées en vers allitératifs des récits de la chute de Gondolin ((Voir sur Wikidata)) et de la fuite des Noldoli du Valinor. La traduction française comporte également le texte original anglais du Lai de Leithian, ainsi qu'un index, absent des éditions françaises des deux premiers volumes de la série (Le Livre des contes perdus). The Lays of Beleriand, первое англоязычное издание — 1985 год) — третий том 12-томной «Истории Средиземья» Кристофера Толкина, в которой он анализирует неизданные рукописи своего отца, Дж. Р. Р. Толкина. Книга содержит эпические поэмы, написанные Толкином: «Песнь о детях Хурина» (по саге о Турине Турамбаре) и «Лэ о Лейтиан» (также называемая «Освобождение от уз») о Берене и Лутиэн. Хотя Толкин и оставил работу над ними, не доведя песни до конца, они обе достаточно длинны и содержат большое количество строф, каждая из которых может занимать до десяти страниц. Песнь о детях Хурина написана белым стихом (точнее, аллитерационных стихом), вторая — парнорифмованными двухстишиями, четырехстопным ямбом (в полном соответствии с жанром «бретонских лэ»). Обе существуют в двух версиях. В дополнение к этим двум поэмам книга также содержит три неоконченных поэмы, оставленных вскоре после начала работы над ними: «Бегство нолдоли», «Песнь об Эаренделе» и «Песнь о падении Гондолина». Первые две написаны аллитерационным стихом, «Песнь о падении Гондолина» — семистопным ямбом. Первые версии длинных баллад хронологически относятся к наиболее ранним работам Толкина, изложенным в «Книге утраченных сказаний», однако более поздняя версия «Лэ о Лейтиан» относится к тому же времени, что и написание «Властелина колец» (начало 1950-х).
