- ضمور الخصية (بالإنجليزية: Testicular atrophy) هي حالة طبية تصغر فيها الخصيتان والتي هي أعضاء التكاثر الذكرية (عند الإنسان توجد الخصيتان في كيس جلدي يدعى بالصفن) مما يؤدي إلى فقدان في وظيفتها. ضمور الخصية لا يستخدم للحالات المؤقتة التي قد تحدث لأسباب مختلفة مثل البرد. قد يحدث ضمور الخصية بسبب إصلاحات جراحية لأنواع معينة من الفتق. - Bei der Hodenatrophie (umgangssprachlich „Schrumpfhoden“) sind einer oder beide Hoden des Mannes stark verkleinert. Das Volumen liegt teilweise unter einem Kubikzentimeter. In der Regel zeigt ein stark atrophierter Hoden keine Funktion mehr – weder eine Produktion von Spermien noch von Hormonen. Liegt das Volumen über einem Kubikzentimeter, wird vereinzelt noch eine Hormonproduktion erreicht. Ursachen können sein: Hodenentzündung, Hodenbruch, Trauma, Hodentorsion, Durchblutungsstörungen, Missbrauch von Anabolika, Myotone Dystrophie Typ 2, Einnahme von Östrogenpräparaten und Antiandrogenen bei Transsexualismus. Zudem kann eine Hodenatrophie auch durch Lebererkrankungen wie Leberzirrhose hervorgerufen werden.Es gibt aber auch genetische Ursachen, wie zum Beispiel im Fall des Klinefelter-Syndroms. (de)
- Testicular atrophy is a medical condition in which one or both testicles (or "testes") diminish in size and may be accompanied by reduced testicular function. Testicular atrophy is not related to the temporary shrinkage of the surrounding scrotum, which might occur in response to cold temperature. As the testicles are involved in testosterone and sperm production, the signs and symptoms of testicular atrophy overlap with those related to infertility or low testosterone levels. In a prepubescent person with testicular atrophy, there may be underdevelopment of secondary sex characteristics (e.g. lack of penis growth). In sexually developed individuals, testicular atrophy may be accompanied with lower sex drive and increased breast tissue. Additional signs and symptoms vary and can depend on the specific cause of the testicle shrinkage. Some causes include age, alcohol use, hormone therapy, direct damage to the testicles, and infection. Diagnosis of testicular atrophy includes physical examination of the testicles as well as imaging to measure testicular volume. A testosterone blood level is also taken to assess function of the testicles. Additional tests may be ordered depending on the suspected cause(s) of the shrinkage. Treatment and potential reversibility of testicular atrophy are also dependent on the cause. (en)
- L'atrofia testicolare è una condizione medica in cui gli organi riproduttivi maschili (in particolare i testicoli, che negli esseri umani si trovano nello scroto) diminuiscono di dimensioni e volume, in cui possono essere accompagnati dalla perdita di funzionalità, quale l'assenza di produzione di sperma e ormoni maschili. Le cause possono includere: infiammazione dei testicoli, traumi, torsione testicolare, disturbi circolatori, l'abuso di steroidi anabolizzanti, distrofia miotonica di tipo 2, assunzione di preparati a base di estrogeni e anti-androgeni per il transessualismo. Inoltre, un'atrofia testicolare può anche essere dovuta a malattie epatiche come la cirrosi del fegato. Ma vi sono anche cause genetiche, come ad esempio nel caso della sindrome di Klinefelter. (it)

Algumas medicações, como os esteróides anabolizantes, podem causar a atrofia testicular que irá sofrer uma reversão quando o ciclo do tratamento terminar, desde que não dure muito tempo. Outras causas para a atrofia testicular incluem a aterosclerose, criptorquidia(inibe a espermatogênese) e produção insuficiente de hormônio luteinizante mais freqüentemente observado em casos de hipopituitarismo.
