- Le Taro est un ancien département français dont le chef-lieu était Parme. Le département fut créé le 24 mai 1808. Il tire son nom de la rivière homonyme. La population de ce territoire avait été estimée à 381 087 habitants en 1806. La frontière avec le département de Crostolo (Royaume d'Italie napoléonien) changea plusieurs fois. Le département avait deux sous-préfectures : Plaisance et Fidenza. Le traité de Fontainebleau du 11 avril 1814 mit fin à la possession française. Il était divisé en trois arrondissements :
* Arrondissement de Parme :
* Cantons : Colorno, Corniglio, Saint Donato, Fornovo, Langhirano, Saint-Pancrazio, Parme (2 Cantons), Poviglio, Sissa, Traversetolo, Vairo (Palanzano).
* Arrondissement de Plaisance :
* Cantons : Agazzano, Bettola, Borgonovo (Borgonovo Val Tidone), Castel San Giovanni (Château-Saint-Jean), Pianello (Pianello Val Tidone), Plaisance (2 Cantons), Ponte dell'Olio, Pontenure, Rivergaro, Rottofreno.
* Arrondissement de Borgo-san-Donnino (Fidenza) :
* Cantons : Bardi, Borgo-San-Donnino (Fidenza), Busseto, Carpaneto (Carpaneto Piacentino), Cortemaggiore, Fiorenzuola, Fontanellato, Lugagnano, Monticelli, Noceto, Pellegrino (Pellegrino Parmense), Saint-Secondo (San Secondo Parmense), Zibello. (fr)
- Taro [ta.ʁo] was a department of the First French Empire in present-day Italy. It was named after the Taro river. It was formed in 1808, when the Duchy of Parma, Piacenza and Guastalla was annexed by France under the Treaty of Lunéville. Its capital was Parma. The department was disbanded after the defeat of Napoleon in 1814. At the Congress of Vienna, the Duchy was restored and given to Marie Louise, Napoleon's wife. Its territory is now divided between the Italian provinces of Parma and Piacenza. The most notable person born in the then-Département of Taro was the composer Giuseppe Verdi (born 9 or 10 October 1813 in the village of Le Roncole near Busseto). (en)
