È il primo titolo Spin-off della serie a presentare un'unione tra elementi di giochi a piattaforme con quelli di ruolo. Inoltre è anche il secondo gioco in cui Tails non è assieme a Sonic, dopo Tails' Skypatrol. Il gioco non segue la trama della serie e vi sono anche due storie differenti tra la versione giapponese e quella americana. Il capitolo si può collocare prima dell'incontro tra Sonic e Tails, sebbene nel manuale inglese viene detto il contrario. In ambedue le versioni, Tails deve salvare un'isola da alcuni malvagi, raccogliendo oggetti ed i Chaos Emerald che potranno essere ottenuti durante il viaggio. (it)
