- Der Weinrote Schuppen-Röhrling (Suillus spraguei, Syn.: Suillus pictus, Boletinus pictus) ist eine Pilzart aus der Familie der Schmierröhrlingsverwandten (Suillaceae). Weitere Trivialnamen sind Bunter Stroben-Röhrling oder Geschmückter Röhrling. Suillus spraguei hat eine komplexe taxonomische Geschichte hinter sich und wird in der Literatur auch häufig als Suillus pictus bezeichnet. Die leicht bestimmbaren Fruchtkörper haben einen Hut, der frisch dunkelrot gefärbt ist, sich trocken anfühlt und mit Haar- und Schuppenmatten bedeckt ist, die durch gelbe Risse voneinander getrennt sind. Auf der Hutunterseite befinden sich kleine, eckige und gelbe Röhren, die sich im Alter bräunlich verfärben. Der Stiel trägt einen gräulichen, flauschigen Ring und ist gewöhnlich mit weichen Haaren oder Schuppen bedeckt. Suillus spraguei bildet Mykorrhiza mit verschiedenen Kiefernarten, insbesondere der Weymouth-Kiefer. Die Fruchtkörper wachsen auf dem Boden und erscheinen vom Frühsommer bis zum Herbst. Die Art verfügt über eine disjunkte Verbreitung und kommt in Ostasien, im Nordosten Nordamerikas und in Mexiko im gesamten Areal des Wirtsbaums vor. Der Weinrote Schuppen-Röhrling ist ein Speisepilz, wenngleich die Meinungen über den Speisewert variieren. Der Pilz hat Ähnlichkeit mit einigen anderen Schmierröhrlingen, darunter der eng verwandte und im Südosten Nordamerikas verbreitete , obwohl die Arten durch abweichende Farben und Größen unterschieden werden können. Los cuerpos fructificantes se identifican con facilidad, debido a que tienen sombreros de color rojo oscuro cuando están frescos, son secos al tacto y tapizados con vellos y escamas separados por fisuras amarillas. En la parte inferior del sombrero hay pequeños poros amarillos y angulares, que se tornan de color marrón al envejecer la seta.
