- The natural monuments of South Korea constitute a natural heritage system designated by the South Korean government according to the Natural Heritage Protection Law (문화재보호법) that considers significant natural resources, such as animals and plants. As of August 2022, a total of 702 (132+570) animal, plants, landforms, geological formations, and nature reserves had been designated by the Cultural Heritage Administration of South Korea as natural monuments and scenic sites, with 132 being scenic sites, and 570 of them natural monuments. Only 472 of these continue to maintain their natural monument designation, and only 129 maintained their scenic site designation. (en)
- 대한민국의 천연기념물(大韓民國의 天然紀念物)은 동물·식물·지질·광물과 천연보호지역으로 구분된다. 천연기념물로 지정할 수 있는 자연물은 한국 특유의 이름있는 서식지 및 생장지·석회암지대·사구·동굴··습지·하천·온천·호수·도서, 학술적인 가치가 큰 나무, 원시림, 고산식물지대, 중요한 화석 표본 등이다. 천연보호지역은 보호해야 할 천연기념물이 풍부한 일정 규역을 설정한다. 전라남도 홍도, 강원도 설악산, 제주도 한라산, 그 밖에 대암산··향로봉 등이 천연보호구역이다. 1933년 천연기념물 제도가 시행된 후 총 155가지가 지정되었고, 이를 1962년 재정비하는 과정에서 많은 수가 해제되었다. 2008년 천연기념물 명칭 기준이 바뀌어서 각 천연기념물의 공식 명칭이 크게 변했다. - 大韓民国が指定する天然記念物（てんねんきねんぶつ）は大韓民国の文化遺産保護制度の一つ。1962年に施行された によって指定・管理される。指定の対象のなるのは植物、動物、昆虫、鉱物（洞窟）、化石などであり、指定物の存在する地域を包括する場合と、指定物のみの場合がある。例えば、は第238号では錦江に棲むヤガタニゴイが指定されているのに対し、第259号ではヤガタニゴイ単体が指定の対象になっている。 韓国の天然記念物の指定の土台は1933年8月9日に公布された「朝鮮宝物古蹟天然記念物保存令」である。この法令で指定された天然記念物は解放後も引き継がれたままになっていたが、文化財保護法の制定により再指定された。このとき、北朝鮮側にある天然記念物は指定と同日に管理不能のため指定解除された。 (ja)
