- Un sixareen ou sixern est un type de bateau de pêche traditionnel à voiles et rames plus grand qu'un yoal, utilisé autour des îles Shetland (Écosse) entre le XVIIIe et le XIXe siècle. Les premiers sixareen ont été, comme le yoal, importés de Norvège jusqu’au milieu du XIXe siècle. C'est un bateau à bordage à clin, à rame et voile carrée d'abord puis aurique. Plus grand qu'un yoal, ce type est apparu lorsque le besoin en équipage de pêcher plus loin de la côte est apparu. Il existe deux répliques modernes de ce type de navire :
* Le Far Haaf à Unst, achevé en 1988, coulé par une tempête en 1992 et reconstruit en 1993.
* Le Vaila Mae, construit en 2008 pour le Shetland Museum de Lerwick. (fr)

It is a clinker-built boat, evolved as a larger version of the yoal, when the need arose for crews to fish further from shore. The first of the sixareens were, like the yoal, imported from Norway in kit form until the mid 19th century, when increasing import duty made it more cost effective to import the raw materials and build the boats in Shetland.
