- Silent Letter is the eighth studio album by American folk rock duo America, released by Capitol Records in June 1979. This was the first America studio album following the departure of Dan Peek, the first America release on Capitol Records, the last album – and last of seven consecutive – which longtime Beatles producer George Martin produced with America. It was also their first studio album since their debut to have a title beginning with a letter other than "H". The title itself acknowledges the missing "H" by its wry reference to silent letters in the English language. The album contains fast-paced disco songs, piano-based power ballads (often sung by Gerry Beckley) and mid-tempo pop rock songs. (en)

Uma das características mais marcantes do álbum é a perda da sonoridade folk-rock da banda, devido ao uso mais amplo da guitarra elétrica no lugar dos tradicionais violões. As músicas da banda deste disco em diante tendem para o pop-rock. Outra característica está no que se refere à composição das músicas, que antes era realizada apenas pelos membros-fundadores do trio, com raras exceções, e que agora passa a ser bastante mista e não-restrita aos dois membros-fundadores remanescentes (Dewey Bunnell e Gerry Beckley). Do álbum saíram três singles, sendo eles: "Only Game in Town" (107º lugar no Billboard Pop), "All My Life", que fez grande sucesso na Ásia, e "All Around" (48º e 45º lugares no Billboard Adult Contemporary, respectivamente).
