- Unter einem Gebärdenchor versteht man eine Gemeinschaft von Menschen, die Gesang in Gebärdensprache praktizieren. Während solche speziellen Chorgruppen sich früher vor allem aus gehörlosen Menschen zusammensetzten und meist im Bereich der Gehörlosenseelsorge angesiedelt waren, gibt es inzwischen mehrere gemischte Gruppen aus gehörlosen, ertaubten, schwerhörigen und hörenden Menschen. Zudem sind Gebärdenchöre heute teils ökumenisch orientiert oder konfessionell nicht gebunden. Zum Teil werden auch poetische Texte in Gebärdensprache vorgetragen, wofür sich der Begriff Gebärdenpoesie eingebürgert hat. (de)
- Le chansigne est une forme d'expression artistique qui consiste à exprimer les paroles d'une chanson traduites en langue des signes au rythme de la musique de cette chanson. Les paroles signées peuvent être mêlées à de la vision virtuelle ou à d'autres formes de danse. La vision virtuelle et d'autres gestes peuvent servir à transcrire les parties instrumentales de la musique en plus des paroles. On peut parler de réécriture dans le chansigne car il s'agit d'adapter la musique et de lui donner un sens, en lui intégrant du rythme, des jeux de mots ainsi que de la poésie. Le chansigne est une adaptation à part entière. La musique peut être présente et on peut lui ajouter des bruitages ainsi que des textes parlés. Une artiste chansigneuse sourde définit ainsi le chansigne : « "Suite de signes modulés émis par le corps humain, qui, par la différence de rythme et d'amplitude produisent des sensations variées." C'est une définition pompeuse pour dire que je fais corps avec la musique. Un chanteur anglais ne chante pas que pour les anglophone [sic], moi c'est pareil. » Le chansigne existe en tant que forme d'art indépendante, ainsi que pour rendre accessible un spectacle ou un clip aux sourds et malentendants. - Sign singing or Karaoke signing is singing using sign language. Typically a song is played, and the performer expressively performs a sign language version of the lyrics. Whereas vocal singing uses pitch and tone to convey expressions, sign singing relies on the performer's hands, body, and facial expressions. Choirs can perform sign singing and have gathered popularity in recent years as accessibility for the Deaf community and interest in signing languages have risen. Competitions in which sign choirs can compete include the National Signing Choir Competition in the UK. Well-known sign singers include the Japanese , a follower of Nichiren Buddhism, and the bawdy Australian duo . In London in 2003, a series of "Deaf Idol" events were held where deaf participants competed in karaoke singing, dance etc., in a similar format to the TV show Pop Idol.Sign language can be used to express extremely nuanced feeling, and so sign singing is an important creative input for the deaf. Sign singing is featured in the movie Napoleon Dynamite during a scene when two members of the "happy hands club" perform a song titled "The Rose" written by Bette Midler, entirely in sign. The signing club depicted in the film was largely inspired by a sign singing club that was previously established at Preston High School (Idaho), where the movie was filmed. The film brought wider attention to the club, originally called the "Good hands club," which was founded by educator Dan Robertson, who conceived the idea for the group while studying ASL at Brigham Young University. In 2013 the troupe performed on stages at Disneyland, in the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and flew to Orlando for the convention of a large corporation. A sign language interpretation by the late Kimberly Rae Schaefer during Pearl Jam's 2000 tour for "Given to Fly" garnered public attention for the passionate and emotional signing. The National Anthem was sung and signed in British Sign Language at the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympicsby The Kaos Signing Choir for Deaf and Hearing Children. The 2015 Broadway musical theater production of Spring Awakening integrated American sign language within the choreography of dance moves, while also utilizing a mixture of hearing and deaf performers. - Il canto nella lingua dei segni, o canto-segnato, consiste nell'utilizzo del proprio corpo per esprimere in maniera artistica il testo di una canzone usando la lingua dei segni. Solitamente l'esecutore accompagna una canzone eseguendone una versione in lingua dei segni. Mentre con il canto sonoro si utilizzano note e toni per esprimersi, questa tipologia si basa sulle mani, sul corpo e sulle espressioni facciali dell'esecutore. Il crescente interesse per il fenomeno, non solo all'interno della comunità sorda, ha spinto alla creazione di interi cori che si esibiscono in lingua dei segni. Con l'avvento di questa tipologia di canto, diverse competizioni musicali si sono adattate per consentire anche l'esibizione di canzoni in lingua dei segni; tra gli eventi più celebri troviamo il , nel Regno Unito, ed il Festival di Sanremo in Italia.
