- Der Shirley Jackson Award ist ein Literaturpreis, der seit 2008 für Werke aus dem Bereich der psychologischen Horrorliteratur und Phantastik verliehen wird, die in der Tradition der Werke von Shirley Jackson, der 1965 verstorbenen Autorin von The Haunting of Hill House, stehen. Sie werden jährlich bei der in Burlington (Massachusetts) für im vorhergehenden Jahr veröffentlichte Werke verliehen. Die Preiskategorien sind:
* novel (Roman),
* novella (Kurzroman),
* novelette (Novelle),
* short story (Kurzgeschichte)
* collection (Sammlung von Erzählungen eines Autors) und
* anthology (Zusammenstellung von Erzählungen mehrerer Autoren). Über die Verleihungen entscheidet eine aus Schriftstellern, Herausgebern, Kritikern und Literaturwissenschaftlern gebildete Jury unter Einbeziehung von Empfehlungen eines beratenden Gremiums (advisory board). Ergibt sich bei deren Abstimmung ein Stimmengleichstand, so wird in der betreffenden Kategorie mehrfach verliehen. Die erste Verleihung fand bei der Readercon 19 am 20. Juli 2008 statt. These awards for outstanding achievement in the literature of psychological suspense, horror and the dark fantastic are presented at Readercon, an annual conference on imaginative literature. Writing in Salon in 2010, Laura Miller noted, "The awards are only 3 years old, but have already proved a fitting tribute to a writer who roamed freely over similar ground and has never quite gotten the respect she deserves." Award-winners are selected by a jury of professional writers, editors, critics and academics, with input from a Board of Advisors. The awards are given for the best work published in the preceding calendar year in the following categories: Novel, Novella, Novelette, Short Story, Single-Author Collection and Edited Anthology. The first annual Shirley Jackson Awards were presented July 20, 2007 at the Readercon Conference on Imaginative Literature in Burlington, Massachusetts. The jurors were John Langan, Sarah Langan, Paul G. Tremblay and F. Brett Cox, who now form the Board of Directors along with JoAnn Cox. (en)

Zwycięzcy wybierani są przez jury złożone z pisarzy, redaktorów, krytyków i pracowników naukowych. Przyznawane są za najlepszą pracę opublikowaną w poprzednim roku kalendarzowym w kategoriach: powieść, opowiadanie, nowela, miniatura literacka, kolekcja jednego autora i antologia. Po raz pierwszy nagrody zostały wręczone 20 lipca 2007 w Burlington w stanie Massachusetts. Jurorami byli , , i F. Brett Cox, którzy wraz z JoAnn Cox utworzyli później zarząd. (pl)
