- الفوج الاسكتلندي هو أي فوج (أو وحدة عسكرية مماثلة) كان له في وقت ما من تاريخه اسم يشير إلى اسكتلندا أو جزء منها، واعتمد عناصره قطعاً من اللباس الإسكتلندي. أُنشِئَت هذه الأفواج بعد قانونا الاتحاد عام 1707 بين إنجلترا واسكتلندا، إما تخدم بريطانيا بشكل مباشر خلال حروبها المختلفة، أو كجزء من المؤسسات العسكرية لدول الكومنولث. لم تعد «اسكتلنديتهم» بالضرورة ناتجة عن التجنيد في اسكتلندا ولا أي نسبة من أعضاء من أصل اسكتلندي. بطبعها زرعت الأفواج الاسكتلندية سمعة الشراسة الاستثنائية في القتال وغالبًا ما تُمنح صورًا رومانسية في وسائل الإعلام الشعبية. داخل اسكتلندا نفسها، لم تتبنى أفواج الأراضي المنخفضة الاسكتلندية الزي الرسمي «الإسكتلندي» المميز (تحديدًا المرتفعات الاسكتلندية) حتى أواخر العصر الفيكتوري وحتى ذلك الحين، لم يتم اعتماد التنورة، ذلك الجانب الأكثر تميزًا لجندي المرتفعات، بالجملة. - Un régiment écossais est un régiment qui a, ou a eu au cours de son histoire, un nom qui fait référence à l'Écosse ou bien un uniforme qui y fait référence. Généralement, ces régiments sont issus de l'Empire britannique et, plus tard, du Commonwealth. De nos jours, les membres de ces régiments ne sont plus nécessairement recrutés en Écosse. En plus du Royaume-Uni, il y a notamment des régiments écossais en Australie, au Canada, en Nouvelle-Zélande, en Afrique du Sud et aux États-Unis. (fr)
- A Scottish regiment is any regiment (or similar military unit) that at some time in its history has or had a name that referred to Scotland or some part thereof, and adopted items of Scottish dress. These regiments were created after the Acts of Union in 1707 between England and Scotland, either directly serving Britain during its various wars, or as part of the military establishments of Commonwealth countries. Their "Scottishness" is no longer necessarily due to recruitment in Scotland nor any proportion of members of Scottish ancestry. Traditionally, Scottish regiments cultivate a reputation of exceptional fierceness in combat and are often given romantic portrayals in popular media. Within Scotland itself, regiments of the Scottish Lowlands did not adopt as distinctively "Scottish" (specifically Scottish Highland) uniforms until the late Victorian Era and even then the kilt, that most distinctive aspect of the Highland soldier, was not adopted wholesale.
