- Das Séminaire de géométrie algébrique du Bois Marie (SGA) war ein einflussreiches mathematisches Seminar, in dem Alexander Grothendieck von Mai 1959 bis 1969 seine Theoriegebäude der Algebraischen Geometrie und arithmetischen Geometrie entwickelte und das am IHES stattfand (und anfangs bis 1962 noch in Paris bei der Fondation Thiers). Der Name Bois Marie bezeichnet einen kleinen Wald in der Nähe des IHES in Bures-sur-Yvette, einem Pariser Vorort. Aktive Teilnehmer am Seminar waren unter anderem Pierre Berthelot, Luc Illusie, Michael Artin, Jean-Louis Verdier, Michel Raynaud, Michèle Raynaud, Jacob Murre, Michel Demazure, Jean Giraud, Pierre Deligne, Pierre Gabriel, André Neron, Pierre Cartier, Pierre Samuel. - En mathématiques, le Séminaire de géométrie algébrique du Bois Marie est un séminaire ayant eu une très forte influence en géométrie algébrique. Il était animé par Alexander Grothendieck. Le séminaire s'est déroulé entre les années 1960 et 1969 à l'Institut des hautes études scientifiques près de Paris. Le nom vient de celui d'un petit bois à Bures-sur-Yvette où se trouve l'IHÉS depuis 1962. Les notes du séminaire ont finalement été publiées en douze volumes, tous sauf un dans la collection Lecture Notes in Mathematics de Springer-Verlag. (fr)

It was a unique phenomenon of research and publication outside of the main mathematical journals that ran from 1960 to 1969 at the IHÉS near Paris. (The name came from the small wood on the estate in Bures-sur-Yvette where the IHÉS was located from 1962.) The seminar notes were eventually published in twelve volumes, all except one in the Springer Lecture Notes in Mathematics series. (en)
