- La inmunología de la reproducción es parte de la ciencia de la inmunología y estudia la participación del sistema inmune en la reproducción sexual animal, en especial humana. Debido a que el feto produce elementos antigénicos potencialmente reactivos en la madre, es de especial interés que las reacciones inmunológicas en contra del producto de la gestación sean virtualmente inexistentes y que el intercambio de fluidos sexuales y el subsecuente embarazo se completen sin la activación patológica de la inmunidad materna. - Reproductive immunology refers to a field of medicine that studies interactions (or the absence of them) between the immune system and components related to the reproductive system, such as maternal immune tolerance towards the fetus, or immunological interactions across the blood-testis barrier. The concept has been used by fertility clinics to explain fertility problems, recurrent miscarriages and pregnancy complications observed when this state of immunological tolerance is not successfully achieved. Immunological therapy is a method for treating many cases of previously "unexplained infertility" or recurrent miscarriage. (en)
