- Ranefer (o Ranofer) va ser un príncep d'Egipte de la IV dinastia (Regne Antic d'Egipte). El seu nom prové del déu egipci Ra i de la paraula egípcia nefer (nfr), que significa "bellesa". Ranefer, que tenia el títol de "Fill dels Rei", era un fill del faraó Sneferu, que va ser el primer governant de la IV dinastia. La seva mare era l'esposa o la concubina de Sneferu; el seu nom no se sap. Els germans grans de Ranefer eren Nefermaat I i . Tots van morir abans que Sneferu i el seu germà petit Khufu es va convertir en el seu successor. Ranefer va treballar com a supervisor del seu pare, ja que també tenia el títol de "Supervisor de Djed-Sneferu", i va ser enterrat dins d'una tomba de mastaba a Meidum. A la tomba s'hi van trobar restes de vísceres embolicades amb lli. El cos de Ranefer és la millor representació de les tècniques de momificació que es practicaven durant el Regne Antic. El seu cos estava orientat a l'est i estava modelat i pintat. Els cabells de la mòmia estaven pintats de negre, les celles i els ulls de verd, mentre que la boca la tenia pintada de vermell. La momia intacta de Ranefer, respetada por los antiguos saqueadores, permitió conocer las técnicas de momificación comunes durante el Imperio Antiguo. El cuerpo estaba de lado mirando al oeste, tradición antiquísima que luego se sustituyó por el cuerpo yacente de espaldas, y envuelto en vendas impregnadas de resina y pintadas para simular el cuerpo de debajo, siendo esto último también después sustituido por una máscara funeraria. Así, el cabello de la momia estaba pintado de negro, las cejas y los ojos fueron pintados con líneas verdes y la boca pintada como una raya roja . Los genitales fueron también cuidadosamente moldeados en lino, el cerebro permanecía en el cráneo y sus entrañas lavadas y empaquetadas individualmente fueron encontradas dentro de un cofre canópico en la tumba. His name, Ranefer, comes from the Egyptian god Ra and the Ancient Egyptian word nefer (nfr), meaning "beauty." Ranefer, who had the title King’s Son, was a son of Pharaoh Sneferu, who was the first ruler of the Fourth Dynasty. Ranefer’s mother was Sneferu’s wife or concubine; her name is unknown. Ranefer’s elder brothers were Nefermaat I and Rahotep. They all died before Sneferu and their younger half-brother Khufu became pharaoh after Sneferu. Ranefer worked as an overseer for his father (title: “Overseer of Djed-Sneferu”) and was buried inside a mastaba tomb at Meidum. In the tomb were found remains of viscera wrapped in linen. Ranefer’s body is the best representation of what mummification techniques entailed during the Old Kingdom. His body was facing east, was molded as well as painted. Figlio, e successore, di Snefru fu Cheope che, con le sorelle Hetepheres A e Nefertnesu A sono gli unici che, nei testi dedicatori delle relative tombe, riferiscono esplicitamente la discendenza da Snefru ed Hetepheres I. Così non risulta per Ranefer, titolare della tomba n.ro 9 della necropoli di Meidum, e di quelli che, con identificazione non univocamente accettata per l'usanza di denominare encomiasticamente "figlio del re" anche chi non lo era effettivamente, sono considerati i suoi fratelli e sorelle tra cui figurano: lo stesso Cheope; Meryetyotes I e Henutsen (entrambe spose di Cheope); Netjeraperef; Khanefer; Ankhhaf, che avrebbe sposato la sorella Hetepheres A; Iynefer A; Rahotep A, che avrebbe sposato la sorella Nofret A; Nefermaat; Nefertnesu A; Neferkhau A.
