- Powiśle (polnisch für nah der Weichsel) ist ein Unterbezirk des Warschauer Bezirks Śródmieście (Innenstadt). Er befindet sich zwischen der Weichsel und deren Böschung unterhalb der Warschauer Altstadt. Im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert wurde das Gebiet von meist ärmeren Bewohnern besiedelt. Die Industrialisierung um 19. Jahrhundert änderte dies nur ein wenig. Seinen Charakter als eher ärmliches Viertel behielt es bis zum nahezu vollständigen Abriss während des Warschauer Aufstandes im Jahre 1944. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde das Gebiet teilweise wiederaufgebaut und Mariensztat im Norden von Powiśle war der erste fertiggestellte Stadtteil in Warschau. Zukünftig soll das Gebiet als ein Campus der Universität Warschau fungieren, hierfür wurden beispielsweise die Universitätsbibliothek Warschau sowie mehrere Fakultätsgebäude in dem Gebiet errichtet. - Powiśle (pronounced Po-vee-shle; literally along-the-Vistula) is a neighbourhood in Warsaw's borough of Śródmieście (Downtown). It is located between the Vistula river and its escarpment. Historically, it is composed of three neighbourhoods: central Powiśle, Mariensztat to the north (just below the Warsaw's Old Town) and Solec to the south. In the 17th and 18th centuries the area was mostly inhabited by the poor. Little changed in the 19th century when the neighbourhood became slightly industrialized. It retained the character of a city slum until its almost complete destruction during the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. It was inhabited by the unemployed and craftsmen of all types, factory and port workers, smiths, coalers, sand vendors, fishermen and prostitutes. As such it was similar in character to London Docklands. After the war, the area became partially rebuilt and the area of Mariensztat became the first neighbourhood of Warsaw to be reconstructed. Currently there are plans to turn the area into the Warsaw University campus, a notion that was already started by the construction of the Warsaw University Library and several faculties there. (en)
- Powiśle (che letteralmente in polacco significa "presso la Vistola") è una frazione situata all'interno di Śródmieście, a sua volta una frazione centrale di Varsavia. Si trova, come dice il nome stesso, a ridosso della Vistola. Storicamente la zona è composta da tre aree residenziali: Powiśle, a nord (appena sotto la Città Vecchia) e Solec a sud. Nel XVII e XVIII secolo divenne l'area popolata principalmente dai poveri di Varsavia. Nel XIX secolo la situazione cambiò di poco, anche se la frazione iniziò la sua fase di industrializzazione; mantenne tuttavia il suo carattere povero fino alla quasi completa distruzione durante la rivolta di Varsavia del 1944. Era abitata da disoccupati e commercianti di tutti i tipi, operai delle fabbriche e del porto, da pescatori e prostitute. Come tale, era simile nelle sue peculiarità al porto di Londra. Dopo la guerra, l'intera zona fu parzialmente ricostruita e l'area di Mariensztat divenne il primo quartiere di Varsavia ad essere completato. Attualmente sono in fase di realizzazione i progetti di trasformazione dell'area in un campus dell'Università di Varsavia. Oggi Powiśle è un quartiere in espansione ricco di centri commerciali e negozi vintage. I molti bistrot attirano un gran numero di giovani imprenditori benestanti provenienti da ogni regione della Polonia. (it)
