- The PowerBook 150 is a laptop personal computer created by Apple Computer which was introduced on July 13, 1994, and released on July 18, 1994. It was the last member of the PowerBook 100 series to use the original case design, the most affordable of the series when introduced (priced between $1,450 and $1,600) and also the last consumer model. It was 8 MHz faster than its predecessor, the PowerBook 145B. It lacked an ADB port and used a lower-quality passive matrix display than other contemporary offerings, both to reduce the price. It also lacked external monitor support. Like the Duos and the PowerBook 100 before it, the 150 only had a single serial printer port, however, a third-party adapter was available for use in the optional modem slot. One interesting improvement was the display's resolution of 640x480 - an increase from the earlier PowerBook resolution of 640x400, and more in line with standard desktop monitors of the time. Though it used the 140 case design, its internals were based on the PowerBook Duo 230 and actually more similar to the features of the PowerBook 190 (which used the PowerBook 5300's case design). Notably, this new logicboard design allowed this 100 series PowerBook to use more than 14 MB RAM for the first time. It was also the first of the 100 series to include a lithium-ion backup battery to preserve RAM contents when the battery is replaced, as well as the first Macintosh ever to use less expensive and larger IDE drives (formatting required a unique software application limiting the selection of compatible drives). This was the last PowerBook model to include a trackball. Like the 145B it replaced, the 150 could not be used in SCSI Disk Mode, unlike the Duo, 190 and 5300 which had HD Target Mode implemented. Vendu à 1 300 $, il composait le bas de la gamme PowerBook et offrait de meilleures performances pour un prix inférieur à son prédécesseur. Il était aussi le plus léger des PowerBook série 100 et disposait d'une plus grande autonomie (2 heures 30 environ). Il utilisait un microprocesseur Motorola 68030 cadencé à 33 MHz contre 25 MHz pour ses prédécesseurs et disposait d'une mémoire vive plus rapide (la même que sur les PowerBook Duo) extensible jusqu'à 40 Mo. Il était aussi le premier PowerBook à utiliser un disque dur IDE et non SCSI. Ces différences majeures viennent du fait due le 150 était équipé d'une carte mère de PowerBook Duo, les ultraportables de la gamme PowerBook. Pour baisser son prix, le PowerBook 150 avait néanmoins dû souffrir quelques sacrifices : son écran était d'une faible qualité et sa connectique était très pauvre. Il ne disposait en effet pas de port ADB (c'est d'ailleurs le seul PowerBook sans port ADB), ni de sortie vidéo, ni de port Ethernet : il n'était doté que d'un port série et d'un port SCSI. (fr)

Come la serie Duo & PowerBook 100 in precedenza, il 150 aveva solamente una porta seriale per la stampante, tuttavia era disponibile una adattatore costruito da terze parti da utilizzare nello slot modem slot opzionale. Per gli utenti che desideravano utilizzare una tastiera o un mouse esterno, ciò costituiva un problema da prendere seriamente in considerazione. Era anche senza una porta sul retro, a differenza del resto dei modelli della serie 100. Anche se utilizzava il design del case del 140, l'interno era basato sul PowerBook Duo 230 e in realtà più simile alle caratteristiche del PowerBook 190 (che usava invece il case del PowerBook 5300). In particolare, il nuovo design della logicboard permise a questo PowerBook della serie 100 di utilizzare, per la prima volta, più di 14MB di RAM, nonché il primo tra tutti i Macintosh ad usare i meno costosi e più capaci dischi rigidi IDE (la formattazione richiedeva un software specifico che limitava la selezione dei dischi rigidi compatibili). Fu anche il primo dei modelli della serie 100 a includere una batteria di backup in tecnologia ni-mh per conservare i dati della RAM durante la sostituzione della batteria principale. Fu anche l'ultimo modello a includere una trackball. Era anche disponibile una tastiera bianca QWERTZ.
