- يوحنا الثالث أو يوأنس الثالث المعروف بـ يوحنا السمنودي، بابا الإسكندرية وبطريرك الكرازة المرقسية للأقباط الأرثوذكس رقم 40. أصله من سمنود، وأقام بطريركاً 9 سنوات، في الفترة من 27 نوفمبر عام 680 حتى 27 نوفمبر عام 689 م، وتوفي. (ar)
- Joan III fou el 40è Papa d'Alexandria i Patriarca de la Seu de Sant Marc (680–689). Era originari de Samanoud una ciutat al nord d'Egipte, per això també se l'ha anomenat Papa Joan III de Samanoud. Durant el seu papat el governador musulmà de Damasc era Marwan I fins després de la mort de Yazid, fill de Mu'âwiyah i pare Muàwiya II, Marwan prengué el control del Xam i d'Egipte. Com a califa Marwan feu governadors als seus fills arreu de les províncies del Califat. Col·locà al seu fill Abd-al-Aziz ibn Marwan com a governador d'Egipte i el seu fill gran Abd-al-Màlik ibn Marwan governador de Damasc, qui més tard succeiria al seu pare. En aquella etapa els governants omeies encara estaven en guerra amb Abd-Al·lah ibn az-Zubayr. I quan Abd-al-Aziz esdevingué governador d'Egipte, el Papa Joan III va escriure d'Alexandria a Misr als dos escribes que presidien el seu divan, per fer sabut a ells què hi havia estat fet respecte al segell, que s'havia posat a tots els llocs, i el problema amb els calcedonians díscols que l'afectaven. Tot seguit aquests escribes enviaren missatgers a Alexandria amb les instruccions que els segells havien de trencar-se el segell en els llocs anomenats, i que tots els béns de l'Església havien de ser lliurats al Pare Patriarca. El 680, el Papa Joan III va reconstruir la Catedral de Sant Marc a Alexandria. (ca)

- Pope John III of Alexandria (fl. 680), 40th Pope of Alexandria & Patriarch of the See of St. Mark. He was originally from Samanoud a city in the North of Egypt, hence also known as Pope John III of Samanoud. During his papacy the Muslim ruler in Damascus was Marwan I as after the death of Yazid, the son of Mu'âwiyah and his son Muawiya II, Marwan I took control of the East and of Egypt. Marwan I made his sons governors over all the provinces. He appointed his son Abd al-Aziz ibn Marwan governor of Egypt and his eldest son Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan as governor of Damascus, who later became the successor to his father. At that stage the Umayyad rulers were still in war with Abdullah bin Zubayr. And when Abd al-Aziz became governor of Egypt, Pope John III wrote from Alexandria to Misr to the two scribes who presided over his divan, to make known to them what had been done concerning the seal, which was set upon all the places, and the trouble with the Chalcedonians from which he was suffering. Thereupon the said scribes sent messengers to Alexandria with instructions that the seal should be broken in the places named, and that all the property of the Church should be delivered to the Father Patriarch. In 680, Pope John III rebuilt Saint Mark's Cathedral in Alexandria. (en)
