- Pegasus Bridge (en català: Pont Pegàs), originalment anomenat pont de Bénouville pel poble veí, és una carretera que creua el , entre Caen i Ouistreham a Normandia. El pont original, construït el 1934, és ara un monument commemoratiu de guerra i és la peça central del museu a Ranville. Va ser substituït l'any 1994 per un disseny modern que, com l'antic, és un pont basculant. El 6 de juny de 1944, durant la Segona Guerra Mundial , el pont va ser, juntament amb el proper pont de Ranville sobre el riu Orne (un altre encreuament de carreteres, més tard rebatejat ), l'objectiu dels membres de la Companyia D, 2n Batalló (Aerotransportats), , una força transportada amb planadors que formaven part de la de la 6a Divisió Aerotransportada durant l' als primers minuts de la invasió aliada de Normandia. Am D-Day wurde sie im Verlauf der Operation Tonga von alliierten Luftlandeeinheiten der britischen 6. Luftlandedivision unter dem Befehl von Major John Howard erobert. - Pegasus Bridge, originally called the Bénouville Bridge after the neighbouring village, is a road crossing over the Caen Canal, between Caen and Ouistreham in Normandy. The original bridge, built in 1934, is now a war memorial and is the centrepiece of the Memorial Pegasus museum at nearby Ranville. It was replaced in 1994 by a modern design which, like the old one, is a bascule bridge. On 6 June 1944, during the Second World War, the bridge was, along with the nearby Ranville Bridge over the Orne River (another road crossing, later renamed Horsa Bridge), the objective of members of D Company, 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, a glider-borne force who were part of the 6th Airlanding Brigade of the 6th Airborne Division during Operation Tonga in the opening minutes of the Allied invasion of Normandy. Under the command of Major John Howard, D Company was to land close by the bridges in six Airspeed Horsa gliders and, in a coup-de-main operation, take both intact and hold them until relieved by the main British invasion forces. The successful capture of the bridges played an important role in limiting the effectiveness of a German counter-attack in the aftermath of the Normandy invasion. Later in 1944, the Bénouville Bridge was renamed Pegasus Bridge in honour of the operation. The name is derived from the shoulder emblem worn by British airborne forces of I Airborne Corps (United Kingdom), which depicts Bellerophon riding the flying horse Pegasus. (en)

- Pegasus fu il nome in codice dato ad un ponte ribaltabile sul , vicino alla città di Ouistreham. Il ponte era uno dei principali obiettivi della 6ª Divisione aviotrasportata britannica, che atterrò con alcuni alianti nelle sue vicinanze durante lo sbarco in Normandia, nella notte fra il 5 e il 6 giugno 1944. Da allora il ponte ha preso permanentemente il nome Pegasus Bridge (Ponte Pegasus), a memoria dell'operazione. Lo scopo primario della cattura del Pegasus Bridge era quella di rendere sicuro il fianco orientale dello scenario operativo, prevenendo un contrattacco che avrebbe spazzato via l'intera forza di invasione. L'assalto iniziale venne eseguito da 181 soldati con 6 alianti Horsa, capitanati dal maggiore John Howard. Essi atterrarono a una cinquantina di metri dal ponte, 16 minuti dopo la mezzanotte del 6 giugno. La prima unità terrestre a giungere sul posto fu il 6º Commando, guidato da Lord Lovat, che arrivò al suono della cornamusa scozzese del suo suonatore personale Bill Millin. Più tardi, durante il medesimo giorno, arrivarono dalla spiaggia Sword unità della 3ª divisione di fanteria britannica, che presero in consegna il ponte. Nelle immediate vicinanze del sito dello scontro si trovano ora un museo e un monumento dedicato al maggiore Howard. L'elemento principale del museo è il ponte stesso. Podczas kampanii normandzkiej stanowił on ważny punkt strategiczny, zabezpieczając przeprawy na jedynej możliwie trasie z brytyjskiego przyczółka na plaży Sword do miasta Caen. Most został zdobyty nocą 6 czerwca 1944 roku przez brytyjską 6 Dywizję Powietrznodesantową w ramach operacji Deadstick. Do końca II wojny światowej pozostawał nienazwany. Swoją obecną nazwę zawdzięcza naszywce mundurowej 6 Dywizji, na której widnieje biały pegaz ujeżdżany przez jeźdźca z kopią na bordowym tle. W 1994 r. stary most został zdemontowany, a na jego miejscu ustawiono nową konstrukcję. Oryginalny Most Pegaza znajduje się obecnie w Muzeum Mostu Pegaza w pobliskim Ranville. Most został przedstawiony w dwóch misjach w grze Call of Duty, gdzie celem jest jego opanowanie, a potem odpieranie niemieckich kontrataków. Pojawił się też w grze Codename: Panzers – Faza pierwsza oraz w modzie Forgotten Hope do gry Battlefield 1942. (pl)
