- Pàtrocle (en grec antic: Πάτροκλος; en llatí: Patroclus) fou un militar al servei de Ptolemeu II Filadelf que va dirigir la flota enviada per Egipte en ajut d'Atenes contra Antígon II Gònates (266 aC). Com que no va poder desembarcar a cap dels ports àtics, dominats pels macedonis, va establir la seva base a una illa pròxima al cap Súnion, illa que després va portar el seu nom; va demanar al rei d'Esparta de fer un atac de distracció contra Antígon a la zona fronterera, però no va reeixir i Pàtrocle es va retirar. - Patroklos (altgriechisch Πάτροκλος Pátroklos) war ein hellenischer Flottenkommandant (Nauarch) im Dienst des Königs Ptolemaios II. von Ägypten. Er ist wahrscheinlich identisch mit Patroklos, Sohn des Patron, der im Jahr 271/270 v. Chr. als eponymer Priester des Alexanders und der Theoi Adelphoi (Ptolemäischer Alexanderkult) genannt wurde. Während des chremonideischen Krieges gegen Antigonos II. Gonatas führte Patroklos 265 v. Chr. eine ägyptische Flotte in die Ägäis, als Unterstützung für das von Antigonos bedrohte Athen. Auf dem Weg eroberte er dabei Kaunos an der karischen Küste, wo er den Dichter Sotades gefangen nahm. Weil dieser sich über die Geschwisterehe Ptolemaios’ II. lustig gemacht hatte, ließ Patroklos ihn im Meer ertränken. Danach besetzte er eine damals unbewohnte Insel, welche der Südspitze Attikas (Kap Sounion) vorgelagert ist, die er mit einem Kastell und Palisadenwall befestigte. Von hier aus riegelte Patroklos mit seiner Flotte den saronischen Golf ab, bis sich Athen 262 v. Chr. dem Antigonos ergeben musste. Die Insel Patroklos, deren früherer Name unbekannt ist, trägt bis heute seinen Namen. (de)

He is best known for his activity during the Chremonidean War (267–261 BC), when he commanded the navy sent to Greece by Ptolemy II. His early career is obscure, but it must have been distinguished enough for him to rise to the chief priesthood of Alexander and the Theoi Adelphoi in 271/270 BC. After the outbreak of the Chremonidean War, he led a diplomatic and military expedition to the Aegean Sea that expanded Ptolemaic control by establishing bases at Crete, Ceos, Thera, Attica and the Argolid. From these bases he tried, without much success, to aid the Athenians against Antigonus II Gonatas, King of Macedon. He may have been the defeated Ptolemaic commander at the Battle of Cos, which marked the end of Ptolemaic thalassocracy. (en)
