- L'opération Scylla (italien : Operazione Scilla) était une tentative réussie de la Marine royale pour transférer le croiseur léger Scipione Africano de sa base dans la mer Tyrrhénienne à Tarente, dans la mer Ionienne, lors de l'invasion alliée de la Sicile en juillet 1943 (opération Husky), au cours de Seconde Guerre mondiale. L'opération fut remarquable dans l'engagement nocturne entre le croiseur italien et les quatre torpilleurs britanniques lors du passage du détroit de Messine, aux premières heures du 17 juillet 1943. L'action a également marqué la seule fois où un navire de guerre italien a fait un usage de combat efficace du radar de surface pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. (fr)
- Operation Scylla (Italian: Operazione Scilla) was the transit of the Regia Marina (Italian Royal Navy) Capitani Romani-class light cruiser Scipione Africano on the night of 17/18 July 1943, during the Second World War. The cruiser sailed from La Spezia in the Tyrrhenian Sea to Taranto in the Ionian Sea during the Allied invasion of Sicily. Scipione Africano fought a night engagement against four British motor torpedo boats (MTBs) during its passage of the Strait of Messina. One MTB was destroyed and one damaged; Scipione Africano received superficial damage after being fired on by mistake by Axis coastal artillery. The action was the only time that an Italian warship made effective use of surface radar during an engagement in the war. (en)

L'incrociatore Scipione Africano della Regia Marina italiana, in viaggio di trasferimento da La Spezia a Taranto, fu attaccato da una flottiglia di motosiluranti della Royal Navy britannica durante il suo passaggio attraverso lo stretto; facendo buon uso degli impianti radar imbarcati, lo Scipione riuscì a respingere l'attacco senza subire alcun danno.
