- Nivarox és el nom d'una aliatge metàl·lic amb altes concentracions de cobalt, Co, (42-48%), níquel, Ni, (15-25%) i crom, Cr, (16-22%) més petites quantitats de titani, Ti i beril·li, Be. L'aliatge Nivarox és utilitzada principalment en la indústria rellotgera, encara que també en altres indústries de micromàquines i en alguns equips mèdics i instruments quirúrgics. El nom és un acrònim en alemany de Nicht Variable Oxydfest és a dir "ni variable ni oxidable". Usant aquest aliatge en components crítics de rellotgeria es reduïxen els errors deguts a la variació de temperatura. Les molles espirals fabricades amb Nivarox són resistents al desgast, a més de pràcticament no ser magnètiques, no sofrir oxidació i posseir un baix coeficient de dilatació tèrmica. El Nivarox, junt amb l'aliatge Glucydur, han convertit en obsolets els cars sistemes de compensació del balanç. Els ressorts de Nivarox són utilitzats per la majoria dels rellotgers de tot el món i posseïxen també un ús limitat per a components específics d'instruments científics sensibles. (ca)

Nivarox wird hauptsächlich in der Uhrenindustrie verwendet. Die Legierung aus Nickel, Chrom, Mangan, Titan, Beryllium, Silicium und Eisen besitzt Eigenschaften, welche bei der Herstellung von Unruhspiralen und Antriebsfedern von Vorteil sind. Federn aus Nivarox sind ermüdungsarm, nahezu antimagnetisch, nicht rostend und haben einen sehr geringen Wärmeausdehnungskoeffizienten. Die Nivarox-Rezeptur Straumanns besteht nach Masse aus: 39 % Nickel, 8 % Chrom, 1 % Mangan, 1 % Titan, <1 % Beryllium und 0,5 % Silicium, der Rest aus Eisen. Die heutige Zusammensetzung von Nivarox (und Nivaflex) besteht dagegen aus 40 – 45 % Kobalt, 21 – 27 % Nickel, 12 – 18 % Chrom, 4 % Molybdän, 4 % Wolfram, 0,3 % Beryllium, <0,1 % Kohlenstoff, der Rest aus Eisen. Nivarox macht das Gangverhalten mechanischer Uhren stabil und nahezu temperaturneutral. Durch diese besonderen Eigenschaften konnte die aufwändige und teure Kompensationsunruh ersetzt werden. Unruhspiralen aus Nivarox werden heute weltweit von fast allen Herstellern mechanischer Uhren in verschiedenen Qualitätsstufen verwendet. - Le Nivarox (nom déposé) est un alliage utilisé dans l'horlogerie. C'est un alliage à base de fer, comprenant 30 à 40% de nickel, et moins de 1% de Béryllium. Il existe de nombreuses variantes de sa composition, qui peuvent comprendre du chrome, du molybdène, du titane ou encore du silicium. La caractéristique principale de Nivarox est que son module d'élasticité varie extrêmement peu avec la température. Il résiste en outre extrêmement bien à la corrosion. Cela en fait un matériau de choix pour la réalisation du ressort spiral d'une montre mécanique : la raideur du ressort ne doit pas varier à la température, car cela affecterait la fréquence d'oscillation du balancier, et donc la précision de la montre. Cet alliage a été commercialisé vers 1930, à la même époque que le glucydur complétaire, puisqu'utilisé dans les balanciers. Le nom est l'abbréviation de l'allemand « Nicht variabel, oxydfest » soit « invariable, inoxidable ». Nivarox is also the trade name of the metallic alloy from which its products are fabricated. Its notable property is that its coefficient of elasticity is remarkably constant with temperature. Nivarox is most famous for producing hairsprings that are attached to the balance wheel inside a mechanical watch movement, as well as mainsprings which provide the motive power for the watch. Nivarox was developed for use in watch hairsprings in 1933 by Reinhard Straumann in his Waldenbourg laboratory.
