- Metapolitics (sometimes written meta-politics) is metalinguistic talk about politics; a political dialogue about politics itself. In this mode, metapolitics takes on various forms of inquiry, appropriating to itself another way toward the discourse of politics and the political. It assumes a self-conscious role of mediating the analytic, synthetic, and normative language of political inquiry and politics itself. The language used for studying, analyzing, and describing a language is a metalanguage. In current usage and praxis, the term metapolitics is often used in relation to postmodern theories of the Subject and their relation to political theory. - Métapolitique, terme composé des racines "meta" ("au-delà" en grec) et "politique", du grec "polis" (la cité, les affaires publiques) signifie littéralement : « ce qui se situe au-delà des affaires publiques ». À la différence du terme « métaphysique » en usage depuis l'époque d'Aristote (IVe siècle avant notre ère), il n'est apparu qu'à la fin du XVIIIe siècle chez quelques philosophes allemands et français. Mais sa signification actuelle, comme étant le domaine d'action et de réflexion qui se situe au-delà du politique tout en restant concerné par les affaires publiques, voire en cherchant à les influencer sur le long terme, lui a été attribuée dans la deuxième moitié du XXe siècle, sur la base des travaux du penseur marxiste italien Antonio Gramsci (infra). - Metapolitiek is de politieke filosofie die de staatsvorm op zich beschouwt. In zijn boek Abrégé de métapolitique beschrijft Alain Badiou een emancipatoire ontologie van de politiek. Onder metapolitiek wordt politiek verstaan als een in de realiteit en praktijk beproefd denken. Doorslaggevend in deze omschrijving is voor hem daarbij een democratie die zich vormt uit de politieke dynamiek van bijvoorbeeld een fabrieksbezetting of een huizenkraak. Daarmee grenst hij de term "politiek" af van alle vormen van geregulariseerde en geïnstitutionaliseerde democratie, die hij als "onpolitiek" benoemt. Gelijkheid en rechtvaardigheid, die in elke geïnstitutionaliseerde ontpolitiseerd en ingekapseld is, zal in zijn visie slechts via individueel handelen bereikt worden. Aristoteles citerend stelt hij vast dat gelijkheidsstrijders – in de visie van Badiou vormen zij de geïnstitutionaliseerde politiek – de meeste hindernissen opwerpen. (nl)
