- Martyn Bennett (17 de febrero de 1971 – 30 de enero de 2005) fue uno de los más destacados gaiteros escoceses junto a Gordon Duncan de finales del siglo XX y principios del siglo XXI. Aunque nació en Canadá, Martyn vivió en Escocia siendo reconocido por los escoceses. Se inició a los diez años y a los doce ganó su primer premio en una competición. A los quince años ingresó en el para posteriormente ingresar en 1990 en el . Su carrera musical estuvo llena de creatividad. Se inclinó por el mestizaje entre las músicas tradicionales del mundo y los ritmos modernos. Estuvo ligado al grupo Drumalban, dedicado a la danza y música. A mediados de los 90 participó en la banda sonora de la película Braveheart y compuso la pieza Mackay's Memoirs, que fue interpretada en la inauguración del Parlamento escocés. Su discografía se inicia en 1996. Un año después saca a la luz Bothy Culture, al que le prosigue Hardland en el 2000, Glen Lyon en 2002 y Grit en 2003. Aunque se le asocia con la gaita, también se aplicó con otros instrumentos como el violín y el piano. (es)

He was a piper, violinist, composer and producer. He was an innovator and his compositions crossed musical and cultural divides. Sporting dreadlocks at the height of his performing career, his energetic displays led to descriptions such as "the techno piper". Diagnosis of serious illness at the age of thirty curtailed his live performances, although he completed a further two albums in the studio. He died fifteen months after release of his fifth album Grit. (en)
