The Lohner L was a reconnaissance flying boat produced in Austria-Hungary during World War I. It was a two-bay biplane of typical configuration for the flying boats of the day, with its pusher engine mounted on struts in the interplane gap. The pilot and observer sat side by side in an open cockpit, and both the upper and lower sets of wings featured sweepback.

  • Lohner L byl jednomotorový průzkumný a bombardovací létající člun vyráběný v Rakousku-Uhersku v průběhu první světové války. Jednalo se v podstatě o silnější verzi letadla . Letoun byl velice úspěšný, německá firma Hansa-Brandenburg vyrobila v licenci upravenou verzi. Itálie ukořistila neporušený stroj, podle kterého začala firma Macchi vyrábět obdobný hydroplán. 15. září 1916 dva stroje tohoto typu zaskočily a potopily francouzskou ponorku Foucault (Q70), což představuje první potopení ponorky na moři leteckým útokem. Nejúspěšnějším letcem na tomto stroji byl Gottfried Freiherr von Banfield, nejúspěšnější rakousko-uherský námořní pilot s 9 potvrzenými a 11 pravděpodobnými sestřely. Na tomto typu s číslem L16 dosáhl 6 potvrzených a 3 nepotvrzených sestřelů. (cs)

Der Motor war auf Streben zwischen den Tragflächen angeordnet und trieb einen Druckpropeller. Bis 1916 wurde der Type L von Österreich-Ungarn als Aufklärer und Bombenflugzeug eingesetzt. Ab 1916 wurde er zunächst durch die und der Hansa-Brandenburg ergänzt und später weitestgehend ersetzt. Am 27. Mai 1915 fiel den italienischen Streitkräften ein Lohner Type L (Kennung L.40) in die Hände. Das Unternehmen Nieuport-Macchi erhielt den Auftrag eine Kopie der Beutemaschine herzustellen. Das erste Exemplar wurde im Juni 1915 fertiggestellt und erhielt die Bezeichnung L.1, um seine Herkunft von Lohner deutlich zu machen. Das k.u.k. Flugboot L 127 befindet sich, vorbildlich restauriert, im italienischen Luftfahrtmuseum Vigna di Valle am Braccianosee. (de)
