- مراحل نمو الأنا هو مفهوم اقترحته عالمة النفس التنموية جين ليفينجر، ووضعت عنه نظرية مبنية على أساس النموذج النفسي الاجتماعي الذي طوره إريك إريكسون وعلى أعمال هاري ستاك سوليفان التي تفترض أن «الأنا تخضع إلى عملية نمو تتألف من عدة مراحل خلال حياة الإنسان كنتيجة للتفاعلات الديناميكية بين النفس الداخلية والبيئة الخارجية». وتساهم نظرية ليفينجر في توضيح مفهوم نمو الأنا بطريقة تتجاوز مفهوم نظرية السمات وتتعامل مع الشخصية ككيان واحد ذي معنى. - Auf die Ich-Entwicklung bezieht sich ein Stufen-Modell der Persönlichkeitsentwicklung nach Jane Loevinger in der Entwicklungspsychologie. Die US-Psychologin hat es in den 60er Jahren mit Bezug auf Kohlbergs Theorie der Moralentwicklung entwickelt. Mit diesem teilt es unter anderem die Einschätzung, dass die Entwicklung eher stufenförmig als kontinuierlich verlaufe, die empirische Begründung einer typischen Abfolge von Entwicklungsphasen ist ähnlich. Im Zuge ihrer Studien familiärer Interventionsmuster stieß Loevinger auf unerklärte Regelmäßigkeiten in ihren Daten zur Persönlichkeitserfassung, die sie schließlich als Entwicklungssequenzen deutete. Im Verlauf ihrer weiteren Forschung an der Washington University widmete sie sich der Messung und Erforschung dieser „Master traits“ der Persönlichkeit. Sie versteht die „Ich-Struktur“, die der Entwicklung unterliegt, als die Instanz, welche bestimmt, wie eine Person sich selbst und die Welt wahrnimmt und interpretiert. Dabei geht Loevinger nicht vom Ich als psychische Instanz (wie z. B. dem Ego in der Psychoanalyse) aus, sondern als einem Prozess, der die Gedanken und Erfahrungen eines Menschen organisiert – eine explizite Definition von „Ich“ und „Ich-Entwicklung“ verweigert sie jedoch systematisch.
