- American rock band Evanescence has recorded five studio albums, three extended plays, two demo albums and four soundtrack albums. Lead vocalist Amy Lee and former-lead guitarist Ben Moody founded the band in 1995 and were accompanied by David Hodges (keyboards) from 1999 until 2002. Evanescence signed with Wind-up Records and released their debut album, Fallen, in 2003, officially formed by Will Boyd (bass), Rocky Gray (drums), John LeCompt (rhythm guitar), Lee (vocals and piano) and Moody (lead guitar). Produced by Dave Fortman, Lee, Moody and Hodges are credited to have written the entire album together, while LeCompt and Gray each have writing credits for two separate songs. The album sold over 17 million copies worldwide and produced four singles, including "Bring Me to Life". Moody left the band mid-tour in October 2003 and was replaced with Terry Balsamo (lead guitar). Shortly after recording their second studio album, Boyd left the band and was replaced with Tim McCord (bass). In 2006, Evanescence released their second studio album, The Open Door, which debuted at number one on Billboard 200. Lee reunited with Fortman as producer and co-wrote most of the album with Balsamo. LeCompt also has a writing credit for one song. The Open Door sold over five million copies worldwide. During promotion of the album, in May 2007, LeCompt announced that he was fired from Evanescence and also confirmed Gray's decision to quit. They were replaced with Troy McLawhorn (rhythm guitar) and Will Hunt (drums) on a temporary basis, however they officially joined the band during the recording of their third studio album. Evanescence released their eponymous third studio album in 2011, which was produced by Nick Raskulinecz. Evanescence debuted at number one on Billboard 200 and spawned three singles, including "What You Want" and "My Heart Is Broken". Lee, Balsamo, McCord, McLawhorn and Hunt wrote most of the album together, while Will B. Hunt has writing credits for five songs and Zach Williams for one. In March 2014, Lee confirmed that Evanescence had parted ways with Wind-Up Records and they were now independent artists. A few months prior to their first live performance since their hiatus, Evanescence announced in August 2015 that Balsamo had left the band and had been replaced with Jen Majura (rhythm guitar and backing vocals; with McLawhorn taking over lead guitar). In 2016, the band released a vinyl boxset called The Ultimate Collection, which included a B-side compilation album, Lost Whispers. Evanescence released their fourth studio album, Synthesis, in November 2017. The album has been described as Lee's "passion project", which includes orchestral and electronic renditions of past Evanescence songs accompanied by five new songs. The album has produced two singles, "Imperfection" and "Hi-Lo". Lee is credited to have written all five new songs, while McCord, McLawhorn, Hunt, Majura each have one writing credit and B. Hunt (also producer) for two. The Bitter Truth was released as Evanescence's fifth studio album in March 2021, with a partial release in 2020. Five songs have been released to promote the album, namely "Wasted on You" and "Use My Voice". Lee, McCord, McLawhorn, Hunt and Majura are credited to have written most of the album together. B. Hunt is also credited for three songs, while Raskulinecz (returning producer) and Deena Jakoub each have writing credits for two separate songs. Evanescence announced in May 2022 that Majura would no longer be a member of the band and was replaced with Emma Anzai (bass; with McCord taking over rhythm guitar). (en)
