- Leopold Loeske (* 24. Oktober 1865 in Inowrocław, Provinz Posen, Preußen; † 29. März 1935 bei Bad Harzburg) war ein deutscher Uhrmacher und Amateur-Bryologe. Sein botanisches Autorenkürzel lautet „Loeske“. Als gelernter Uhrmacher brachte er sich die Bryologie autodidaktisch bei, wobei er seine meisten Proben in Deutschland, Österreich und den französischen Alpen sammelte. Er starb bei während einer Exkursion bei Bad Harzburg an einem Herzinfarkt. Die Moosgattungen (M.Fleisch. ex Broth.) und (H.K.G.Paul) wurden ihm zur Ehre benannt. (de)

A skilled watchmaker, he was self-taught as a bryologist, collecting moss specimens in Germany, Switzerland and the French Alps during his career. Following World War I, he spent eight years working as a correspondent for a commercial institution due to financial struggles. He joined the British Bryological Society in 1934. He died at Bad Harzburg while on a collection excursion in the Harz Mountains. The moss genera Loeskeobryum (M.Fleisch. ex Broth. 1925) and Loeskypnum (H.K.G.Paul, 1916) are both named in his honor. Era un experto relojero, fue autodidacta como briólogo, recogiendo muestras de musgo en Alemania, Suiza y los Alpes franceses durante su carrera. Después de la Primera Guerra Mundial, pasó ocho años trabajando como corresponsal de una institución comercial, debido a problemas financieros. Murió en Bad Harzburg, mientras participaba en una excursión de recolección en las montañas de Harz.
