- Leica R war eine Spiegelreflexkamera der Leica Camera AG mit Sitz in Wetzlar, Deutschland. Vorgänger war das Leicaflex-System, das allerdings Anfang der 1970er den Anschluss an die technische Entwicklung, die vor allem durch japanische Spiegelreflexkameras vorangetrieben worden war, verloren hatte. Um den wachsenden Markt der Spiegelreflexkameras nicht aufgeben zu müssen, ging Leitz Anfang der 1970er Jahre eine Kooperation mit Minolta ein, durch die Leitz Zugriff auf moderne Technik wie etwa Zeitautomatik erlangte. Dies führte 1976 zur Vorstellung der Leica R3. Seit den späten 1990er Jahren entwickelt die heutige Leica Camera AG wieder selbständig Spiegelreflexkameras.Anfang März 2009 wurde die Produktion von Kameras und Objektiven des Leica-R-Systems eingestellt. Seit November 2015 wird mit der Leica SL (Typ 601) eine spiegellose Systemkamera mit digitalem Bildsensor im Kleinbildformat angeboten, welche mithilfe eines Adapters auch zu den Objektiven der Modellreihe Leica R kompatibel ist. - The Leica R8 & R9 are manual focus 35 mm single-lens reflex cameras produced by the German firm Leica as the final models of their R series. Development of the R8 began in 1990:the camera was introduced at the 1996 photokina trade show, and was succeeded by the similar Leica R9 in 2002. Both can be fitted with the Digital Modul R (DMR) digital back (discontinued in 2007 [1]) and used as a digital camera making them the only 35 mm SLRs to take a user-installable digital back. The R8 was the first R-series camera to have no association with Minolta, being solely a Leica design and showing a clear stylistic change compared to prior bodies. (en)
