- Los sunitas en Líbano constituyen uno de los dieciocho grupos religiosos que habitan en ese país. Según algunas fuentes, hoy en día comprenden aproximadamente un 27% del total de la población libanesa y junto con los musulmanes chiitas (27%) y los maronitas (21%), conforman las confesiones de mayor peso demográfico en el país. Estos datos, sin embargo, son sólo cálculos, ya que Líbano no cuenta con un censo oficial desde el último realizado por el gobierno Francés en 1932. Como resultado del Pacto Nacional Libanés de 1943, las cifras demográficas no se ven reflejadas en la repartición de los cargos de representación popular. De esta manera la presidencia del país corresponde a un ciudadano maronita; el cargo de primer ministro lo ocupa un musulmán sunita puesto que hasta la fecha ocupa Tamam Salam y el cargo de presidente del parlamento corresponde a un musulmán chiita. Sunni Islam in Lebanon has a history of more than a millennium. According to a CIA 2018 study, Lebanese Sunni Muslims constitute an estimated 30.6% of Lebanon's population. (However, in a country that had last census in 1932, it is difficult to have correct population estimates) The Lebanese Sunni Muslims are highly concentrated in Lebanon's capital city - Beirut (West Beirut /or Beirut II). As well as Tripoli, Sidon, Western Beqaa, and in the countryside of the Akkar, Arsal. And a notable presence in Zahlé, Southern Lebanon, and Chebaa. Under the terms of an unwritten agreement known as the National Pact between the various political and religious leaders of Lebanon, Sunni notables traditionally held power in the Lebanese state together, and they are still the only ones eligible for the post of Prime Minister.
