- A laisse is a type of stanza, of varying length, found in medieval French literature, specifically medieval French epic poetry (the chanson de geste), such as The Song of Roland. In early works, each laisse was made up of (mono) assonanced verses, although the appearance of (mono) rhymed laisses was increasingly common in later poems. Within a poem, the length of each separate laisse is variable (whereas the metric length of the verses is invariable, each verse having the same syllable length, typically decasyllables or, occasionally, alexandrines. The laisse is characterized by stereotyped phrases and formulas and frequently repeated themes and motifs, including repetitions of material from one laisse to another. Such repetitions and formulaic structures are common of orality and oral-formulaic composition. When medieval poets repeated content (with different wording or assonance or rhyme) from one laisse to another, such "similar" laisses are called laisses similaires in French. (en)
- La Lassa è una strofa tipica della poesia medievale (in genere tipica della poesia in "lingua d'oïl") costituita da un numero variabile di decasillabi, uniti da una medesima rima o, molto più spesso, assonanzati. In lasse erano composte le Chansons de geste, come ad esempio la Chanson de Roland: La lassa, sul modello francese, ha avuto una discreta fortuna anche nella letteratura italiana, nei cantari italiani popolari; composta da un numero variabile di versi legati da una stessa rima (di solito versi alessandrini), la lassa fu adoperata nell’antica poesia didattica. Nella poesia italiana moderna, per estensione si intende una strofe formata da un numero variabile di versi, anche non legati dalla rima. Esempi di lassa si trovano in Leopardi, in Carducci (La battaglia di Legnano), D'Annunzio (Notte di Caprera), Bertolucci (La camera da letto). (it)

- Ле́сса (фр. Laisse) — строфа, характерная для chanson de geste. Она включает некоторое число стихов (от 3, 4, 5 до 10, 15 или 20 в наиболее древних песнях), содержащих рассказ о некоем действии, обрамленный вступительной и заключительной фразой. Внешним признаком единства лессы служит тот факт, что все её стихи оканчиваются одним и тем же ассонансом (та же гласная в последнем ударном слоге стиха) или рифмой. Кроме того, почти во всех случаях наблюдается совпадение фразы и стиха. Лесса возникла в XI веке в ходе процесса трансформации правильных куплетов повествовательных «песней о святых», который в XII—XIII веках завершился её превращением в длинные тирады с неясными очертаниями и весьма условной целостностью, более или менее аналогичные абзацам в современных текстах. Приблизительно в 1270—1280 гг. Адам де ла Аль, желая подольститься к Карлу Анжуйскому, прибегает в «Песни о короле Сицилии» к эпической модели и придает лессе стандартный размер: двадцать рифмованных александрийских стихов. (ru)
