- Eine Kofia ist eine zylindrische Mütze. Bei einer traditionellen Kofia ist der Stoff gelocht, um so die Luftzirkulation zu unterstützen. Das Wort stammt aus dem Swahili und bedeutet dort „Hut“. Die Kofia ist vor allen im muslimischen Teil Ostafrikas verbreitet. Z. B. trug der erste Staatspräsident Kenias Jomo Kenyatta oft und gerne eine Kofia. Wegen der engen historischen Verbindung zwischen Sansibar und Oman wird sie auch in diesem Teil der Arabischen Halbinsel getragen. Sie gilt dort als zwanglose Kopfbedeckung und ist für jeden Tag geeignet. Es existieren viele verschiedene Muster und Farben, so dass man selten zwei identische Kofia finden kann. Zu formaleren Anlässen wie z. B. traditionellen Festen oder Familienfesten wird allerdings der Turban zur Dischdascha getragen (ähnlich wie in der westlichen Kultur eine Krawatte zum Anzug getragen wird). - Le kofia ou kofya est un bonnet comorien et mahorais destiné aux hommes et brodé à la main par les femmes.Le Kofia peut être d'Anjouan littéralement kofia ya shindzuani, de la Grande Comore ou bien kofia ya shingazidja ou bien Nkofia ya Shi Mwali selon l'île de provenance dans l'Union des Comores et donc la manière de le broder.Il se porte avec le , généralement les jours de prière, notamment le jour de l'Aïd et pour la prière du vendredi. Certaines personnes le portent quotidiennement. Des motifs de tout genre y sont brodés mais les plus prisés sont les versets du Coran, mis en valeur et en relief par les fils de soie.
