- Der Einsturz eines Daches auf dem Messegelände Kattowitz am 28. Januar 2006 war die bisher schwerste Katastrophe dieser Art in Polen. Insgesamt wurden dabei 65 Menschen getötet und 170 verletzt. Zahlreiche Todesopfer wurden nicht unmittelbar durch den Einsturz getötet, sondern erfroren oder erlagen ihren Verletzungen, da sie bei eisigen Temperaturen nicht rechtzeitig aus den Trümmern gerettet werden konnten. - On 28 January 2006, the roof of one of the buildings at the Katowice International Fair (Międzynarodowe Targi Katowickie) collapsed in Chorzów / Katowice, Poland. At 16:15 GMT (17:15 local time), the central section of the roof of the hall collapsed, possibly due to the weight of snow on the building. According to the police there were roughly 700 people in the hall at the time of the collapse. A further collapse occurred 90 minutes later during rescue operations. Polish government spokesman confirmed that there had been 65 dead as well as more than 170 injured, including 13 foreigners. There are confirmed deaths of ten foreign tourists – one from Belgium, one from Germany, three from Slovakia, one from the Netherlands, one from Hungary and three from the Czech Republic. The trade hall was hosting the 56th National Exhibition of Carrier Pigeons, with over 120 exhibitors from all over Europe. Poland was at that time experiencing very cold weather with heavy snow. This meant that the rescue operation was undertaken in sub-zero temperatures, putting the survivors inside the building at risk of exposure. (en)
- Il 28 gennaio 2006 si è verificato il crollo del Międzynarodowe Targi Katowickie (Centro di commercio internazionale di Katowice) a Chorzów (Polonia meridionale), nelle vicinanze di Katowice. Alle 17:15 la sezione centrale del tetto è crollata improvvisamente, forse a causa della neve presente sul tetto. Secondo la polizia all'interno dell'edificio c'erano al momento del crollo circa 700 persone. Un secondo cedimento è avvenuto poi 90 minuti dopo, durante le operazioni di soccorso. Il portavoce del governo ha confermato che c'erano stati almeno 65 morti e circa 170 feriti, fra cui 7 stranieri (fra questi le morti confermate sono quelle di 1 belga, 2 tedeschi, 2 slovacchi, 1 olandese, 2 cechi). La fiera stava ospitando un'esposizione a scala continentale di piccioni viaggiatori con 12 espositori. Le operazioni di salvataggio, terminate nel pomeriggio di domenica 29 gennaio 2006, hanno coinvolto 103 squadre dei vigili del fuoco della Slesia (più di 1000 persone in totale), 230 poliziotti con cani, polizia militare da Cracovia e Gliwice, la di Szczyrk e gli specialisti di salvataggio in miniera di Bytom. Le operazioni sono state sospese per la mancata speranza di trovare sopravvissuti in condizioni climatiche avverse (la temperatura era scesa fino a -20 °C). Subito sono iniziate le operazioni di raccolta delle macerie. I sopravvissuti sono stati trasportati agli ospedali di Katowice e di altre città della regione, fra cui Chorzów, Siemianowice Śląskie, Bytom, Sosnowiec, Ruda Śląska, Dąbrowa Górnicza e Piekary Śląskie. - Katastrofa budowlana na terenie Międzynarodowych Targów Katowickich – zawalenie się dachu hali Międzynarodowych Targów Katowickich (MTK) położonej w Chorzowie, przy granicy Katowic i Chorzowa (województwo śląskie), które miało miejsce 28 stycznia 2006 podczas ogólnopolskiej wystawy gołębi pocztowych. W czasie katastrofy w hali znajdowało się około 700 osób, zwiedzających i wystawców. W jej wyniku zginęło 65 osób, a ponad 170 zostało rannych. Wśród ofiar śmiertelnych znalazło się 10 cudzoziemców – Czesi, Słowacy, Niemcy, Belg, Węgier oraz Holender. Była to największa tego typu katastrofa budowlana we współczesnych dziejach Polski. (pl)
