- Der Jonglei-Kanal ist ein unvollendetes Kanalprojekt im südsudanesischen Bundesstaat Jonglei, der das Sumpfgebiet Sudd am Weißen Nil umgehen sollte. Sein Bau begann 1974, wurde aber infolge des Sezessionskrieges im Südsudan unterbrochen. Seine Länge hätte bei Vollendung 360 Kilometer betragen und er hätte die Städte Bor und Malakal verbunden. - The Jonglei Canal was a canal project started, but never completed, to divert water from the vast Sudd wetlands of South Sudan so as to deliver more water downstream to Sudan and Egypt for use in agriculture. Sir William Garstin proposed the idea of the canal in 1907; the government of Egypt conducted a study in 1946; and plans took shape between 1954 and 1959 during the period of decolonization which included Sudanese independence in 1956. Against the context of Sudan's postcolonial civil conflict, the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA), led by John Garang, halted construction of the canal in 1984. The dispute over the Jonglei Canal, and access to Nile waters, added a significant environmental dimension to the post-1983, second Sudanese civil war, in which disputes over the religious, linguistic, and cultural elements of Sudanese national identity also played prominent roles. - Le canal de Jonglei est un projet inachevé de canal dans le Soudan du Sud. L'enjeu du canal est d'éviter au Nil blanc de parcourir le marais du Sudd où s'évapore une grande partie de l'eau du fleuve. Le canal aurait permis ainsi une plus grande consommation d'eau pour le Soudan et l'Égypte, en faisant disparaitre les marais. L’initiative de ce projet a été étudiée par les Égyptiens et les Anglais pour la première fois en 1898. En 1946, une commission est établie : le « jonglei investigation team » et publie un rapport en 1953. Les plans sont élaborés entre 1954 et 1959, et les travaux ont débuté en 1978. Mais l'Armée populaire de libération du Soudan (APLS) via la Seconde Guerre civile soudanaise de par les impacts que le projet aurait eu sur l'agriculture a délibérément arrêté les travaux en 1984. Lors de l'arrêt des travaux 240 km sur les 360 km avait déjà été creusés, depuis lors aucun travail supplémentaire significatif n'a été entrepris. Depuis l'indépendance du Soudan du Sud en 2013, le projet, qui ne relève pas de l'intérêt du nouveau pays, semble abandonné. (fr)

Genom att leda flodvattnet i en kanal förbi Suddträsken ska mängden flodvatten öka, med ökade möjligheter för bevattning av åkermark i Sudan och Egypten. Projektet är kontroversiellt med tanke på dess inverkan på ekosystemet och har sedan 1980-talet legat nere på grund av långvariga krig i området. (sv)
- O Canal de Jonglei ou Canal de Juncáli foi um projeto proposto para desviar águas através das vastas zonas úmidas de Sudão do Sul, de modo a fornecer mais água para os territórios do Sudão e do Egito, para uso na agricultura. O projeto foi iniciado em 1978, mas nunca foi finalizado. Os restos enferrujados de uma máquina de escavação gigante alemã permanecem até hoje no local em que seria construído o canal, localizados em Juncáli. Atualmente, os governos do Sudão e do Egito decidiram replanejar o projeto do canal, com o intuito de retomar as construções após 24 anos de abandono do projeto. (pt)
