- Ο Γιάννης Χανδρής (1890-1942) ήταν Έλληνας εφοπλιστής. Ο Χανδρής γεννήθηκε το 1890 στη Χίο (η οποία ήταν κτήση της Οθωμανικής Αυτοκρατορίας εκείνη την εποχή). Το 1915, μετά από χρόνια εμπειρίας στον τομέα της ναυτιλίας, αγόρασε το πρώτο πλοίο του, στο οποίο έδωσε την ονομασία Δημήτριος. Στα τέλη του Α΄ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου, ο Χανδρής είχε στην κατοχή του 4 πλοία, συμπεριλαμβανομένων ατμοπλοίων. Το 1922, επέκτεινε τις δραστηριότητές του στην ακτοπλοΐα. Μετά το ξέσπασμα του Β΄ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου, ο Χανδρής ήταν ένας από τους πολλούς Έλληνες εφοπλιστές που εγκατέλειψαν την Ελλάδα. Μετακόμισε στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο. Ο Χανδρής διεύθυνε την εταιρεία κρουαζιέρων που διατηρούσε μέχρι το 1939, όπου και συνταξιοδοτήθηκε. Πέθανε το 1942 από φυσικά αίτια. Αργότερα οι δύο γιοι του, Αντώνιος και Δημήτριος, ίδρυσαν μια νέα εταιρεία κρουαζιέρων, την Chandris Line. Η εταιρεία ιδρύθηκε το 1960 και διαλύθηκε το 1996. (el)
- John D. Chandris (1890–1942) was a Greek shipowner. Chandris was born in Chios, then part of the Ottoman Empire. In 1915, after years of experience in the shipping industry, he bought his first ship, the S/S Dimitrios. By World War I, Chandris' fleet was made up of four ships, including steamships. In 1922, he expanded into the passenger shipping market. Following the outbreak of World War II, Chandris followed the exodus of shipowners from Greece. He moved to England. Chandris ran the cruise lines until he retired in 1939. He died in 1942 at the age 52 from natural causes. His two sons, Anthony and Dimitri, later rebuilt the company, named Chandris Line. A partnership called Chandris-Fantasy Cruises started in the early 1980s and later was divided into two separate arms, Fantasy-Cruises and Celebrity cruises. (en)
