- Jugend Rettet ist eine in Berlin ansässige Nichtregierungsorganisation, deren Vereinszweck die Seenotrettung im Mittelmeer ist. - Jugend Rettet is a non-governmental organization (NGO) from Berlin. Its goal is to save drowning persons at the Mediterranean Sea. Operations are conducted with the Iuventa, a ship that sails under Dutch flag. This ship was seized in August 2017 after suspicion of cooperation with migrant smugglers. The organization is divided into three divisions. First there is the Iuventa crew. The name Iuventa originates from the Roman god of youth and courage. Second, there is a department to encourage political awareness of certain issues. Third, there is a discussion platform for the right of asylum. During a session of the Italian parliament on 10 May 2017, a prosecutor accused Jugend Rettet of working together with migrant smugglers. Jugend Rettet denied the allegations. The organization Frontex (European Border and Coast Guard Agency) criticized the behaviour of NGOs at the Libyan coast waters, and reproached them unwillingness to cooperate with the official organizations. In August 2017, Jugend Rettet refused to sign the code of conduct for NGOs set up by the Italian government. (en)

De reddingsoperaties worden uitgevoerd met het schip de Iuventa, dat onder Nederlandse vlag vaart. Dit schip is in augustus 2017 aan de ketting gelegd op verdenking van samenwerking met mensensmokkelaars. De organisatie bestaat uit drie delen: ten eerste de bemanning van de Iuventa. De Iuventa is een 33 meter lang schip dat gebouwd is om te varen op de Noordzee. Het is in 2016 gekocht en omgebouwd tot reddingsschip. De naam Iuventa komt van de Romeinse god voor jeugd en moed. Ten tweede is er een organisatie die politieke bewustwording voor bepaalde thema’s zegt te willen bevorderen. Als laatste is er een discussieplatform "Botschafterinnen-Netzwerk", voor asielkwesties. Tijdens een zitting van het Italiaanse parlement op 10 mei 2017 beschuldigde een Italiaanse aanklager Jugend Rettet van het samenwerken met mensensmokkelaars, waarbij Jugend Rettet ontkende. De Europese organisatie Frontex had kritiek op het opereren van ngo's voor de kust van Libië, en verweet hen onwilligheid om samen te werken met de officiële organisaties. In augustus 2017 weigerde Jugend Rettet de gedragscode voor ngo’s die was opgesteld door de Italiaanse regering te ondertekenen. (nl)
