- إنويت (بالانجليزية: "Inuit") أو الإسكيمو هم شعب يسكن في شمال الكرة الأرضية، ربما أكثر الشعوب الأصلية انتشارا وشهرة على وجه الارض، وبوصفها مجموعة محلية كبيرة جدا تسكن مناطق القطب الشمالي في ألاسكا وكندا وغرينلاند وروسيا، فإن الإنويت تظهر العديد من الاختلافات في الممارسات والعادات الثقافية. وفي مجتمعات الإنويت، تلعب النساء دورا حاسما في بقاء الجماعة، واعتبرت المسؤوليات التي تواجهها نساء الإنويت متساوية في الأهمية مثل التي يواجهها الرجال، وبسبب هذا، أعطيت المرأة الاحترام الواجب، ولكن لم تعطى حصة متساوية من النفوذ أو السلطة. وقد أحدث التحديث والتحضر مؤخراً تحولا في ثقافة الإنويت التقليدية وأثر على دور المرأة في الثقافة، وتشمل هذه التغييرات الآثار الإيجابية والسلبية على مستوى الرفاه العام للمرأة في الإنويت. - The Inuit are indigenous people who live in the Arctic and subarctic regions of North America (parts of Alaska, Canada, and Greenland). The ancestors of the present-day Inuit are culturally related to Iñupiat (northern Alaska) and Yupik (Siberia and western Alaska), and the Aleut, who live in the Aleutian Islands of Siberia and Alaska. The word "Eskimo" has been used to encompass the Inuit and Yupik, and other indigenous Alaskan and Siberian peoples, but this usage is in decline. In Inuit communities, the women play a crucial role in the survival of the group. The responsibilities faced by Inuit women were considered equally as important as those faced by the men. Because of this, women are given due respect and an equal share of influence or power. Recent modernization and urbanization have transformed traditional Inuit culture and influenced the role of women within the culture. These changes include both positive and negative impacts on the overall well-being of Inuit women. (en)
