- Independence Air was a low-cost airline, owned by FLYi, Inc., headquartered in the Loudoun Gateway Corporate Center in Dulles, Virginia, United States (near Washington, D.C.) that operated from 1989 until 2006. Its route network focused on the east coast of the United States, but it also extended to the west coast. The route network was based at Washington Dulles International Airport. It ceased all operations at 8:24 p.m. UTC-5 on January 5, 2006. The airline had been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy since November 7, 2005. There had been discussion of a last-minute deal that could save the airline, but that did not happen. (en)

Ses vols débutèrent en 1989, comme sous-traitant de United Airlines basé à Washington-Dulles et à partir de 2000 également de Delta Air Lines. Elle opérait sous le nom Atlantic Coast Airlines (ACA). En décembre 2002, United risquant la banqueroute, lui a proposé des accords commerciaux moins intéressants. C'est pourquoi la compagnie prit son indépendance (d'où son nom) le 19 novembre 2003. Elle utilisait des Bombardier CRJ 200 (50 sièges) et des Airbus A319 (pour la Floride). Après deux mois d'agonie financière, Independence Air a annoncé qu'elle allait définitivement cesser ses activités au soir du 5 janvier 2006, faute de propositions de reprise sérieuses.
