- Die paralympische Geschichte Islands begann mit den Sommer-Paralympics 1980, bei denen dreizehn isländische Athleten an den Start gingen und je ein Athlet eine Gold- und eine Silbermedaille gewann. Seitdem hat Island an allen Sommer-Paralympics teilgenommen. Trotz des isländischen Klimas und obwohl Island mit einer Ausnahme an allen Olympischen Winterspielen teilnahm, hat das Land bis dato nur dreimal an den Winter-Paralympics teilgenommen; nach den Spielen im Jahre 1994 in Lillehammer, bei denen mit nur ein einziger isländischer Sportler antrat, folgte eine sechzehnjährige Pause. Bei den Spielen im Jahre 2010 in Vancouver trat dann mit wiederum eine einzelne Athletin an. Bislang konnte Island bei den Paralympics gewinnen, davon 15 Gold-, 13 Silber- und 35 Bronzemedaillen. Ha participado en once ediciones de los Juegos Paralímpicos de Verano, su primera presencia tuvo lugar en Arnhem 1980. El país ha obtenido un total de 63 medallas en las ediciones de verano: 15 de oro, 13 de plata y 35 de bronce. En los Juegos Paralímpicos de Invierno ha participado en cuatro ediciones, siendo Lillehammer 1994 su primera aparición en estos Juegos. El país no ha conseguido ninguna medalla en las ediciones de invierno. (es)
- Iceland made its Paralympic Games début at the 1980 Summer Paralympics in Arnhem, where it fielded thirteen athletes, who won two medals (a gold and a silver). Since then, the country has competed in every edition of the Summer Paralympics. Despite its climate, and despite having participated in every edition (bar one) of the Winter Olympics, Iceland has been a highly infrequent participant in the Winter Paralympic Games. It made its Winter Paralympics début at the 1994 Winter Paralympics, sending just one representative, in ice sledge speed racing. The country was then absent from the Winter Paralympics for sixteen years, before making its return at the 2010 Games in Vancouver - again with just one athlete, Erna Friðriksdóttir in alpine skiing. Icelandic athletes have won a total of sixty-one Paralympic medals, all at the Summer Games: fourteen gold, thirteen silver and thirty-four bronze. This places Iceland in forty-seventh place on the all-time Paralympic Games medal table. (en)
- L’Islande participe aux Jeux paralympiques depuis les Jeux d'été de 1980 à Arnhem, aux Pays-Bas. Le pays a participé à tous les Jeux d'été depuis cette date. Pour autant, et malgré une participation assidue aux Jeux olympiques d'hiver, l'Islande n'a pris part que de manière très sporadique aux Jeux paralympiques d'hiver : représentée par une seule concurrente en course sur luge aux Jeux de 1994 à Lillehammer, elle s'absente seize ans avant d'envoyer une seule représentante en ski alpin en 2010, puis deux en 2014. Les Islandais ont remporté à ce jour soixante-trois médailles dont quinze en or, intégralement aux Jeux d'été. À l'exception de la victoire de au 100 mètres hommes catégorie C7 en athlétisme en 1988, toutes ces médailles d'or ont été obtenues aux épreuves de natation. , la plus grande championne paralympique islandaise, a notamment remporté six titres paralympiques en natation (catégorie 7) entre 1996 et 2004.
