- Hurikán Bill byl 3. cyklónou Atlantické hurikánové sezóny 2009 a druhou srpnovou bouří. Dosáhl 4. kategorie z pětistupňové Saffirovy–Simpsonovy stupnice hurikánů. Při svém postupu naštěstí téměř nezasáhl hustě osídlené oblasti, takže navzdory své značné síle nezpůsobil tak rozsáhlé škody jako např. Hurikán Ike, který v roce 2008 zpustošil pobřeží Mexického zálivu, ačkoliv se v něm vyskytoval obdobně silný vítr. (cs)
- El huracán Bill es el primer huracán de la temporada de ciclones tropicales en el Atlántico de 2009, se formó generalmente en el medio del océano Atlántico, y sigue intensificando su fuerza por estar muy lejos de la costa norteamericana, ya que el mismo viaja a la paralela de la costa este de Estados Unidos.Muchos meteorólogos no descartan que pueda ser la mano derecha del Huracán Katrina, que, con categoría 5, devastó el centro-este de Estados Unidos, en ruta del Misisipi, que por circulación, Bill alcanzó la categoría 3 en muy corto plazo, pero este se supone que no pisará tierra firme por tener un trayecto por el agua, pero no es excepción esto, sino, que en su inércico trayecto, se ubica las Islas Bermudas, que con su gran avance de fuerza/intensidad, no se descarta que llegue con categoría 5 al mismo sitio, y que continúe; aunque este fenómeno del "Gran Huracán Categoría 5" no se cumpió, al igual que el pase sobre el archipiélago Bermuda. - Hurricane Bill was a large Atlantic tropical cyclone that brought minor damage across mainly Atlantic Canada and the East Coast of the United States during August 2009. The second named storm, first hurricane, and first major hurricane of the annual hurricane season, Bill originated from a tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic on August 15. Initially a tropical depression, the cyclone intensified within a favorable atmospheric environment, becoming Tropical Storm Bill six hours after formation. Steered west-northwest around the southern periphery of a subtropical ridge to the northeast of the cyclone, Bill passed through the central Atlantic. At 0600 UTC on August 17, the cyclone strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir–Simpson hurricane wind scale; within 36 hours, Bill entered a period of rapid deepening and intensified into a major hurricane with winds of 115 mph (185 km/h). Passing well northeast of the Lesser Antilles, Bill attained its peak intensity with maximum sustained winds of 130 mph (215 km/h) and a minimum barometric pressure of 943 mb (hPa; 27.85 inHg) on August 19 and August 20, respectively. Thereafter, an approaching trough induced higher vertical wind shear across the region, causing slow weakening of the hurricane; this same trough resulted in an accelerated motion and curve northward. As the storm passed Bermuda, it contained sustained winds equal to a Category 2, and ultimately struck Newfoundland as a tropical storm. After moving inland and weakening to a tropical storm, Bill began an extratropical transition; this alteration in structure was completed by 1200 UTC on August 24. Two days later, Bill's remnant low was absorbed into a larger extratropical system over the Northern Atlantic. Bill caused $46.2 million in damages and two deaths over a nine-day period. As it passed close to Bermuda, the hurricane caused power outages and strong winds, though damage was minor. Despite remaining well offshore of the United States East Coast, the storm's large wind field contributed to strong surf which caused severe beach erosion. Numerous offshore rescue operations occurred as a result of people swept away by the strong waves. Both deaths caused by the hurricane were the result of drownings off the U.S. coast. In some areas of New England, the storm's outer rainbands caused flash flooding. In Atlantic Canada, Bill caused mainly power outages and flooding events. Several roads were flooded in Nova Scotia, and 32,000 people lost power. In Newfoundland, where the hurricane made landfall, strong winds caused minor tree damage. As an extratropical system, Bill dropped light rainfall in the British Isles and Scandinavia. (en)

Bill est devenu une dépression tropicale près des îles du Cap-Vert le samedi 15 août puis rapidement une tempête tropicale en poursuivant son chemin vers l’ouest. Sa trajectoire s’est ensuite incurvée vers l’ouest-nord-ouest et le système est il devenu un ouragan le 17 août, puis un ouragan majeur le 18, soit au moins de catégorie 3 sur l’échelle de Saffir-Simpson, et a atteint son maximum à la catégorie 4 en pleine mer. Bill a parcouru ensuite un arc de cercle pour passer entre les Bermudes et la côte Est des États-Unis avant de frôler la Nouvelle-Écosse et de traverser brièvement la pointe sud-est de Terre-Neuve tout en diminuant graduellement d'intensité. Cet ouragan a été suivi de près car il menaçait de frapper les régions populeuses des Provinces de l'Atlantique du Canada mais finalement les dégâts ont été mineurs. Ураган типа Кабо-Верде «Билл» возник из волны тёплого воздуха, двигавшейся от западного побережья Африки и породившей в субботу 15 августа в районе островов Кабо-Верде область тропической депрессии. Направлявшаяся на запад-северо-запад конвективная система циклона в течение суток усилилась до уровня тропического шторма, затем до ураганной мощи и в ночь с 17 на 18 августа достигла четвёртой категории по шкале классификации Саффира — Симпсона, устойчивая скорость ветра при этом составляла 215 км/ч. По мере дальнейшего продвижения ураган изменил направление на север, прошёл границу Бермудских островов и стал постепенно ослабевать, смещаясь в район Новой Шотландии и Ньюфаундленда. 23 августа Билл повернул на восток-северо-восток и достиг восточного побережья Канады на следующий день с устойчивой скоростью ветра в стихии, составлявшей 120 км/ч. Bill formou-se em 15 de agosto no Atlântico Norte Tropical e seguiu inicialmente para oeste. O sistema se intensificou para uma tempestade tropical ainda naquele dia e se intensificou gradualmente. Bill se intensificou para um furacão em 17 de agosto, e a partir de então, começou a sofrer rápida intensificação, tornando-se um grande furacão em 19 de agosto ao atingir a intensidade de um furacão de categoria 3 na escala de furacões de Saffir-Simpson. Bill continuou a se intensificar, e atingiu seu pico de intensidade ainda naquele dia, com ventos máximos sustentados de 215 km/h, intensidade equivalente a um furacão de categoria 4. A partir de então, Bill começou a se enfraquecer gradualmente assim que ganhava latitude enquanto seguia para norte. A partir de 23 de agosto, Bill começou a seguir para leste-nordeste, e atingiu a costa da Terra Nova, leste do Canadá no dia seguinte, com ventos máximos de 120 km/h. Momentos depois, o Centro Nacional de Furacões (NHC) emitiu seu aviso final assim que o furacão Bill se transformava para um ciclone extratropical. A forte agitação marítima causada pelo ciclone afetou a costa das Pequenas e Grandes Antilhas, das Bahamas e a costa leste dos Estados Unidos, onde duas pessoas morreram após serem atingidas por fortíssimas ondas.
