- Die Drama-Serie Hotel wurde von 1983 bis 1988 auf ABC ausgestrahlt. Schauplatz der Serie war das fiktive Hotel St. Gregory in San Francisco. Außenansichten des St. Gregory stammen vom Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, in dem auch der Pilotfilm gedreht wurde, ehe man während der Dreharbeiten zur eigentlichen Serie für Innenaufnahmen auf Studiokulissen umstieg. Die Handlungen der Episoden waren grundsätzlich in sich abgeschlossen und behandelten die Schicksale der Hotelgäste sowie teilweise auch des Hotelpersonals. Die Hauptdarsteller waren James Brolin, Connie Sellecca, und Shari Belafonte. Selleca wurde 1987 für einen Golden Globe Award nominiert, Brolin ebenfalls in den Jahren 1984 und 1985. Hotel wurde von Aaron Spelling Productions produziert.Im Pilotfilm trat Bette Davis als Hoteleigentümerin auf, jedoch konnte sie ihre Rolle krankheitsbedingt nicht in der Serie fortsetzen, daher wurde sie von Anne Baxter in der Rolle der Victoria Cabot abgelöst. Baxter spielte 1950 in dem Film Alles über Eva Davis’ Gegenspielerin. Die Serie lehnt sich an Motive des Romans Hotel von Arthur Hailey an, der bereits 1966 verfilmt wurde, und gab vielen Gaststars Gelegenheit zu Auftritten. (de)

Based on Arthur Hailey's 1965 novel of the same name (which had also inspired a 1967 feature film), the series was produced by Aaron Spelling and set in the elegant and fictitious St. Gregory Hotel in San Francisco (changed from the New Orleans setting of the novel and film). Establishing shots of the hotel were filmed in front of the Fairmont San Francisco atop the Nob Hill neighborhood. Episodes followed the activities of passing guests, as well as the personal and professional lives of the hotel staff. The distribution rights to the series were originally owned by Warner Bros. Pictures Distribution, until 2006 when CBS Paramount Network Television bought the television libraries and properties of Spelling Entertainment Inc. from Paramount Pictures Domestic Distribution and Viacom Enterprises. - Hôtel (Hotel) est un feuilleton télévisé américain en 115 épisodes de 45 minutes, créé par Aaron Spelling d'après le roman Hôtel Saint-Gregory d'Arthur Hailey (qui avait également inspiré le film éponyme de 1967) et diffusé entre le 21 septembre 1983 et le 5 mai 1988 sur le réseau ABC. Au Québec, le feuilleton a été diffusé à partir du pilote dès le 11 septembre 1984 sur le réseau TVA. En France, (pilote non doublé) seules les saisons 1 et 2 ont été diffusées du 14 septembre 1985 au 25 mars 1986 sur Antenne 2. Rediffusion à partir du 30 mai 1987 sur La Cinq. En Belgique, Les saisons 3 et 4 seront dffusées sur RTL Télévision La saisons 5 n'ayant jamais été doublée en français, elles reste inédite. Ispirato all'omonimo romanzo di Arthur Hailey, che a suo tempo ispirò il film per il grande schermo Intrighi al Grand Hotel, la serie ottenne un ottimo successo di pubblico tanto da aggiudicarsi un People's Choice Awards e un telegatto. Trasmessa dalla ABC dal 1983 al 1988, in Italia ottenne fama e pubblico nonostante i diversi cambi di rete. Prima Canale 5, poi Rete 4 che la trasmise subito dopo Falcon Crest ed infine di nuovo Canale 5 che, nonostante la fascia del mezzogiorno e il periodo estivo riuscì ad ottenere comunque ottimi dati di ascolto. L'episodio pilota, pubblicato come film per la TV dall'omonimo titolo, vedeva la presenza di Bette Davis. L'attrice, che avrebbe dovuto interpretare Laura Trent, la proprietaria dell'albergo, venne sostituita da Anne Baxter, nel serial Victoria, la cognata di Laura. Un duro colpo per la Davis che conosceva molto bene il talento della collega, avvendola affiancata in Eva contro Eva. La Baxter non ebbe comunque modo di godere il successo della serie, infatti dopo 63 episodi, a causa della sua prematura morte, il suo personaggio venne fatto morire. Tra le guest star Ginger Rogers, al suo ultimo ruolo da attrice professionista e Tori Spelling, che per la parte venne nominata ad un Young Artist Award. Musiche composte da Henry Mancini. Riprese esterne effettuate al Fairmont Hoteldi San Francisco. Seguito da un film tv datato 2003, prodotto da Spelling ma inedito in Italia. (it)
