- Honker (simplified Chinese: 红客; traditional Chinese: 紅客; pinyin: hóngkè) or red hacker is a group known for hacktivism, mainly present in China. Literally the name means "Red Guest", as compared to the usual Chinese transliteration of hacker (黑客, hēikè, literally Black Guest as in black hat). The word "Honker" emerged after May 1999, when the United States bombed the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, Yugoslavia and since then, Honkers formed a Honker Union, whose members combined hacking skills with nationalism, and launched a series of attacks on websites in the United States, mostly government-related sites. The name also suggests that a hacker in red, the color of the Communist party, is in combat with hackers in the dark. In the following years, Honkers remained active in hacktivism supporting the Chinese government against what they view as the imperialism of the United States and the militarism of Japan. The group is currently merged with the Red Hacker Alliance. (en)

Il est aussi chargé de dénoncer et de contrer les opposants sur les forums Internet. Les honkers sont en général recrutés au sein de la ligue de la jeunesse communiste chinoise et sont payés à l'article posté. Selon David Bandurski, il y aurait environ 280 000 honkers en Chine. Par ailleurs, les plus compétents, réunis dans les Honkers Union of China, piratent et paralysent les sites des opposants chinois et les systèmes informatiques de pays occidentaux. Ces cyberattaques seraient menées en lien avec l'Armée populaire de libération. Les honkers sont à distinguer des Little Pink, qui sont des groupes de nationalistes pro-régimes auto-organisés dont l'émergence est plus récente que celle des honkers. O grupo foi fundado por um hacker operando sob o nome online Lion, sendo seu nome verdadeiro . Este grupo foi dissolvido em 2004 pois ele não acreditava que o grupo tinha ainda a mesma paixão do começo.
