- Haptanthus és un gènere monotípic inclòs en la família de plantes amb flors buxàcia, per la recerca molecular, i conté una sola espècie Haptanthus hazlettii, són arbusts que només es troben a , Hondures. Es tracta d'una planta molt rara i molt poc coneguda. Haptanthus es va posar en la seva pròpia família Haptanthaceae per el 2005, però es considera en tàxons sense ubicar (tàxons incertae sedis) pel sistema APG (Stevens, P. F., Angiosperm Phylogeny Website, 2001 onwards) i altres per tenir dades insuficients: els seus fruits i llavors encara són desconeguts. Goldberg (de la Smithsonian Institution) prefereix no assignar-lo a cap família, després de comparar-lo amb altres famílies, les mésprobables són Flacourtiaceae i Euphorbiaceae. Doust aprecia la seva semblança amb les Buxaceae. Ha fallat seqüenciar l'ADN de l'única mostra coneguda. Hi ha hagut diversos intents de recollir material de Haptanthus, però només va ser possible en l'expedició de l'any 2010 portada a terme per A. Shipunov i E. Shipunova. No està clar si Haptanthus és una planta extinta; la zona on es va trobar originàriament conté l'herba introduïda . (ca)

Its flowers are unique among the flowering plants. A single "female" (carpellate) flower has two branches on either side which carry "male" (staminate) flowers. The flowers are very simple, lacking obvious sepals or petals. The family placement of the genus has been uncertain, but based on molecular phylogenetic research, it is included in the family Buxaceae as of September 2014. Finalement, le 23 avril 2010, un pied est apparu dans les jumelles de deux botanistes russes partis à sa recherche. En raison de sa localisation au Honduras et de sa rareté, cet arbre n'a naturellement pas de nom vernaculaire en français ou en anglais. (fr)
