- HOTAS ist ein Akronym für den englischen Ausdruck Hands On Throttle And Stick (deutsch „Hände an Schubhebel und Steuerknüppel“) und bezeichnet ein Steuerungskonzept zur Erhöhung der Flugsicherheit. Die Bezeichnung bezieht sich darauf, dass sich sämtliche für die Flugdurchführung wesentlichen Bedienelemente auf dem Steuerknüppel und dem Schubregler angebracht sind. Damit befinden sich die Hände der Flugzeugführers (fast) ständig an diesen beiden wichtigen Steuerelementen und nicht woanders, etwa im Schoß des Piloten. (de)
- HOTAS, an acronym of hands on throttle-and-stick, is the concept of placing buttons and switches on the throttle lever and flight control stick in an aircraft's cockpit. By adopting such an arrangement, pilots are capable of performing all vital functions as well as flying the aircraft without having to remove their hands from the controls. HOTAS was originally applied to military aircraft, starting with the British interceptor aircraft, the English Electric Lightning, in the late 1950s. The concept quickly spread to numerous other aircraft, such as the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon, Mikoyan MiG-29, and Eurofighter Typhoon. In more modern implementations, it is often combined with several other input systems, such as direct voice input and helmet-mounted display, to further reduce workload upon pilots as well as the need to divide their attention between the primary controls and other systems. Outside of the cockpit, the Ground Control Stations (GCS) used by drone operators have commonly implemented HOTAS principles as well. Outside of the aviation sector, the HOTAS concept has made a noticeable impact upon both the road vehicle and gaming industries. (en)

- Mains sur Manche et Manette ou 3M est un concept de pilotage des avions de chasse selon lequel toutes les commandes importantes du système d'armes de l'avion sont accessibles au pilote sans avoir à lâcher ses commandes de vol, le manche et la manette des gaz. C'est l'équivalent de l'anglais : Hands On Throttle And Stick, abrégé en HOTAS. Sur un avion de combat l'équipage est le plus souvent réduit au seul pilote. Il doit donc assurer :
* le pilotage ;
* la fonction du navigateur ;
* la fonction radiocommunication ;
* la fonction du mécanicien ;
* ainsi que l'exécution de la mission militaire (détection, tir, etc.). Pendant les phases les plus difficiles du vol, le pilote doit avoir la main droite sur le manche et la main gauche sur la manette des gaz. Hands on Throttle and Stick) – sposób sterowania nowoczesnymi samolotami wojskowymi, polegający na takim rozmieszczeniu wszystkich przełączników sterowania awioniką i uzbrojeniem, aby można je było obsłużyć bez odrywania rąk od drążka sterowego i przepustnicy. Obecnie system sterowania HOTAS jest stosowany w większości amerykańskich, europejskich i rosyjskich samolotów bojowych. System HOTAS współpracuje z wielofunkcyjnymi wyświetlaczami, zazwyczaj LCD, znajdującymi się w kabinie pilota i tworzącymi tzw. szklany kokpit, eliminując konieczność odrywania wzroku od przyrządów pokładowych w celu odszukania odpowiedniego przycisku. Przełączniki zlokalizowane na przepustnicy obsługują zazwyczaj systemy komunikacji radiowej, identyfikator swój-obcy (IFF), oznaczanie celów, zmianę trybów celownika, zmianę trybów pracy radaru, wybór uzbrojenia, wystrzeliwanie środków przeciwdziałania elektronicznego (paski folii) i przeciwko broni naprowadzanej termicznie (flary), a także hamulców aerodynamicznych. Przełączniki na drążku sterowym służą przeważnie do uzbrajania i uruchomienia uzbrojenia strzeleckiego oraz rakietowego, a także zrzucania bomb i obsługi trymera sterów. System HOTAS jest również wykorzystywany w zaawansowanych dżojstikach, manipulatorach przeznaczonych do obsługi symulatorów lotu, mających postać programów (gier) komputerowych, jak i profesjonalnych systemów symulacyjnych służących do badania parametrów aerodynamicznych konstrukcji lotniczych, prób wypadkowych i wytrzymałościowych itp. Pewną odmianą filozofii HOTAS są też różnego rodzaju przełączniki umieszczone na kierownicy samochodu, a służące do obsługi np. radia. (pl)
