- Military Factions (軍閥, Gunbatsu) is a Japanese term having two separate meanings. Its first meaning is a reference to the Japanese military leadership which exploited its privileged status to vie against the civilian government for control over the nation's policies (particularly during the early Shōwa era). It also refers to competing political factions or cliques within the Japanese military itself. The term came into common use in the Taishō period (1912-1926). (en)

* この第1・第2の意味の場合の日本軍における「軍閥」のことを、英語・スペイン語・フランス語いずれでも日本語をそのままラテン文字で「Gunbatsu」 (en:Gunbatsu) (es:Gunbatsu) (fr:Gunbatsu) と表記し、それをそれぞれの言語で表す際には、「軍隊の派閥 (Faction) 」を意味する「Military Factions」・「Facciones Militares」・「Factions militaires」と直訳している。 5.
* 国内の各地方に割拠し、ある程度の地域を実効支配する、複数の勢力（派閥）のこと。 6. 1.
