- Gonoessa (en grec antic Γονόεσσα) és el nom d'una antiga ciutat grega que Homer menciona al "Catàleg de les naus" a la Ilíada.1 No es coneix la seva localització exacta. Pausànias l'identifica amb una població destruïda anomenada Donusa, que diu que estava situada entre Egira i Pel·lene i també diu que estava sotmesa a Sició. Afegeix que potser Pisístrat, quan va recopilar els poemes d'Homer que es trobaven dispersos per diferents llocs, o potser algú proper, va canviar el nom de la ciutat, possiblement per ignorància. Però Pausanias també menciona una altra població que anomena Gonusa, de la que diu que estava situada "damunt de Sició". D'aquesta ciutat procedien els avantpassats de Cípsel de Corint. (ca)

Ήταν πολίχνη του κράτους της Πελλήνης με λιμάνι αφού είχε στείλει στον Τρωικό πόλεμο πλοία υπό την ηγεσία του Αγαμέμνονα. Ο Όμηρος μας λέει ότι μαζί με την Πελλήνη και την Υπερησία είχαν στείλει 100 πλοία. Πιθανολογείται ότι ιδρύθηκε από Πελασγούς πρωτοέλληνες οι οποίοι είχαν έρθει στην περιοχή από τη Μικρά Ασία και είχαν εποικίσει όλη την Αχαΐα. Η θέση της αρχαίας πόλης δεν έχει βρεθεί ακόμα. Οι έρευνες γίνονται ανάμεσα στην Αιγείρα και την Πελλήνη στα σύνορα των νομών Αχαΐας και Κορινθίας όπου είναι μοιρασμένο σήμερα το αρχαίο κράτος. (el)

Añade que tal vez Pisístrato, cuando recopiló los versos de Homero que estaban diseminados por distintos lugares, o alguien cercano a él, cambió el nombre de la ciudad por ignorancia. - Gonoessa (Ancient Greek: Γονόεσσα), also known as Gonussa or Gonoussa (Γονοῦσσα), was a city in ancient Achaea, Greece. The location of the city has not been found, but it is assumed to lie in the northwesternmost part of present Corinthia. "High Gonoessa" was mentioned by Homer in the Catalogue of Ships in the Iliad. It was a settlement of the city-state of Pellene with a port from which a fleet under the command of Agamemnon departed during the Trojan War. Homer said that the combined fleet with Pellene and Hyperesia totaled 100 ships. It has been suggested that the town was founded by the Pelasgians, the proto-Greek that arrived from Asia Minor and settled the whole Achaea. According to Pausanias, its proper name was Donussa or Donoussa (Δονοῦσσα), which was changed by Peisistratus into Gonoëssa, when he collected the poems of Homer. Pausanias says that it was a fortress belonging to the Sicyonians, and lay between Aegeira and Pellene; but from its position we may infer that it was at one time dependent upon Pellene. (en)
