Vi prendono parte soltanto due squadre, i ed i , che si sfidano per 17 turni nello stadio Garrison Field sull'isola di St. Mary's. Il torneo è affiliato alla Football Association (FA), la federazione calcistica inglese. Oltre alle partite del campionato, le due squadre disputano anche la coppa nazionale, chiamata Wholesalers Cup, e la coppa di lega, detta Foredeck Cup. Prima dell'inizio della stagione, inoltre, si gioca il Charity Shield, corrispondente alla supercoppa di lega. Il campionato delle Isole Scilly ha una durata di circa quattro mesi: esso infatti inizia nel mese di novembre e termina alla fine di marzo. Le squadre vengono formate, all'inizio di ogni stagione, dai capitani delle due compagini, i quali scelgono i calciatori in base alle loro preferenze con una formula simile a quella utilizzata nella draft-lottery della National Basketball Association (NBA). Nel 2008 Adidas ha scelto il campionato delle Isole Scilly per lanciare una campagna pubblicitaria, nota con il nome di Dream Big, inviando i calciatori David Beckham, Steven Gerrard e Patrick Vieira a giocare allo stadio Garrison Field con alcuni ragazzi della zona.
