- The Friends of the ABC (French: Les Amis de l'ABC) is a fictional association of revolutionary French republican students featured in Victor Hugo's 1862 novel Les Misérables. In French, the name of the society is a pun, in which abaissés ('the abased', 'humiliated', 'degraded'), is pronounced [abese], very similar to A-B-C ([ɑ be se]). Their members represent a wide variety of political viewpoints, ranging from communist agitation to advocacy for democracy to supporting the Levellers and more, but on 5 June 1832 they all join the popular insurrection known as the June Rebellion and organize the construction of a massive barricade. They are based on the real political group Friends of the People (French: Société des Amis du Peuple). Hugo brings them into the narrative when Marius Pontmercy, one of the novel's principal characters, attaches himself to the group without becoming one of them. With their fight led by Enjolras, all of the members of the group die during the rebellion. Characters Jean Valjean and Gavroche both also fight with the student rebellion, with Valjean barely making it out alive and Gavroche dying. The central story is also told in the 1980 musical version of Les Misérables, though many of the members lack characterization in the musical. (en)

Perkumpulan ini merupakan gerakan pendukung sistem republik yang ingin menumbangkan Monarki Juli. Anggotanya memiliki berbagai macam ideologi, dari yang berhaluan komunis hingga mereka yang menginginkan demokrasi. Pada tanggal 5 Juni 1832, mereka melancarkan pemberontakan yang disebut Pemberontakan Juni dan mendirikan penghalang-penghalang besar. Victor Hugo mulai memperkenalkan perkumpulan ini di novelnya ketika salah satu tokoh utama novel tersebut, yaitu Marius Pontmercy, turut serta dalam perjuangan teman-teman ABC tanpa menjadi anggota. Il loro nome è un calembour: le prime tre lettere dell'alfabeto francese si pronunciano come "abaissé" (abbassato, avvilito). I membri che compongono questo gruppo sono studenti rivoluzionari che hanno diverse opinioni politiche (alcuni sono comunisti, altri democratici, altri ancora dei livellatori), ma tutti insieme si uniscono all'insurrezione repubblicana di Parigi del giugno 1832 e costruiscono una barricata. Gli Amici dell'ABC fanno la loro comparsa nel quarto libro della terza parte, quando Marius Pontmercy stringe amicizia con alcuni membri del gruppo senza però diventare uno di loro. Tuttavia, Marius combatterà con loro sulle barricate (così come faranno anche Jean Valjean e Gavroche) e assisterà alla morte di tutti e nove i membri del gruppo, incluso il loro leader Enjolras.
