- Espoon keskus (schwed. Esbo centrum) ist ein Stadtteil der finnischen Stadt Espoo. Er hat etwa 19.000 Einwohner und gehört zum Stadtbezirk (finn. suuralue) . Wörtlich übersetzt bedeutet der Name „Zentrum von Espoo“. Der Stadtteil liegt im ungefähren geografischen Mittelpunkt von Espoo an der Stelle, wo sich schon im Mittelalter ein Dorf namens Espoo/Esbo befand. Der Stadtteil beherbergt die wichtigsten Verwaltungsgebäude und den einzigen auch von Fernzügen bedienten Bahnhof der Stadt, doch um eine eigentliche Innenstadt handelt es sich nicht (als Teil der "Hauptstadtregion", der Agglomeration rund um Helsinki, hat Espoo keine eindeutige eigene Innenstadt). Tatsächlich liegt Espoon keskus am Außenrand des urbanisierten Gebiets, da sich die dichtere Bebauung in Espoo auf den südlichen Teil des Stadtgebiets konzentriert, der Helsinki am nächsten liegt, während der nördliche Teil ländlich geprägt ist. Ihren heutigen Namen erhielt die Gegend in den 1970er Jahren, als Espoo den Rang einer Stadt erhielt und die Verwaltungsgebäude errichtet wurden. Auch die übrige Bausubstanz entstammt größtenteils dieser oder jüngerer Zeit. In Espoon keskus befindet sich aber auch das älteste erhaltene Gebäude der Stadt, der mittelalterliche Dom von Espoo.

- Espoon keskus (Finnish for Espoo Centre, Swedish: Esbo centrum) is the central district of Espoo, the second biggest city of Finland and the administrative centre with the city hall of Espoo. The areas of , Kirkkojärvi, , , and Tuomarila belong to Espoon keskus. To the east, Espoon keskus borders the city of Kauniainen, an enclave within the city of Espoo. Even though Espoon keskus is located at the approximate geographical centre of the city, it is not a major population or economic center. In fact, Espoon keskus has had a negative reputation among the people living in Espoo in the past. At the moment the city of Espoo is making a serious effort to give Espoon keskus a new look. A new upper secondary school and a swimming hall have been built, the general appearance of the area is being lifted and new road building projects are about. Many people from the Finnish capital area, mainly from Helsinki, view the district of Tapiola and its environs as the real commercial centre of Espoo, even though they are very close to the city border with Helsinki. - Esbo centrum (fi. Espoon keskus) är en stadsdel och administrativt centrum i Esbo stad i Finland. Stadsdelen hör administrativt till Gamla Esbo storområde. Mindre delområden i Esbo centrum är Gillesberget, (fi. Kirkkojärvi), Äskrödjan, Suna, Södrik, och Domsby. Esbo centrum fick sitt administrativt klingande namn på 1970-talet. Innan dess var området känt som bland annat Esbo by, med en gråstenskyrka, Esbo domkyrka, från 1480-talet och Esbo järnvägsstation på Kustbanan Åbo-Helsingfors. Byn bestod av flera stora gårdar (Doms, Jofs, Kirsti, Dahl, Suna osv.) som gett sina namn till de nuvarande bostadsområdena i Esbo centrum. Det nuvarande Esbo centrum byggdes delvis enligt ett förslag i en arkitekturtävling som vanns av polska arkitekter på 1960- eller 1970-talet. Bland annat Esbo stadshus och olika ämbetshus härstammar från denna period. Esbo centrum har länge varit en arkitektonisk skam och området har en låg status. Bland annat kommer man att bygga ut de kommersiella tjänsterna och bygga ett nytt bibliotek för att höja Esbo centrums profil. Också nya högklassiga bostadsområden planeras på ett tomt område invid Esbo station. Esbo kommunalpolitiker kommer snart också att ta ställning till ett förslag om att riva stadshuset och bygga ett nytt. Det finns till och med förslag på att byta ut namnet Esbo centrum mot något annat. (sv)
