- Eran is an ancient town and archaeological site in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, India. It was one of the ancient mints for Indian dynasties as evidenced by the diverse coins excavated here. The site has 5th and 6th-century Gupta era temples and monuments, particularly the colossal stone boar with sages and scholars depicted on the body of the sculpture. The inscription stones found at Eran are important to reconstructing the chronology of Gupta Empire history. Eran or Erakina was the capital of Erakina (Airikina) Pradesha or Airkina Vishaya, an administrative division of the Gupta empire. (en)

В литературе по Древней Индии под Эраном, как правило, понимают место с руинами древних культовых сооружений. В древности на территории Эрана, по всей видимости, располагался крупный город, упоминаемый в буддийских и индуистских текстах. На территории Эрана проводились археологические раскопки древних индуистских храмов и найдены монументальные изваяния божеств вишнуизма. Археологическое управление Индии описывает достопримечательность как святыню, где найдены остатки каменных кладок небольшого вайшнавского святилища. На месте раскопок можно увидеть четыре колонны с эпистелионами, поперечными балками и часть дверного проёма храма. Среди основных достопримечательностей выделяются гигантское изваяние бога Вишну в образе вепря Варахи, а также высокая колонна с надписью правителя династии Гуптов. Археологическое управление Индии полагает, что место было обустроено в эпоху медного века, поздние постройки датируются периодом правления Гуптов. В V—VI веках на берегу реки Бина располагался культовый и паломнический центр. Древний город Эран или, как его возможно называли, Эракина, был столицей Эракина (Айрикина)-Прадеша (Airikina Pradesha) или Айркина-Вишая (Airkina Vishaya), — княжества, входившего в состав империи Гуптов.
