- Mit Katwarn werden Warnungen vom Zivil- und Katastrophenschutz in Gefahrensituationen verbreitet (z. B. bei Großbrand, Bombenfund, Umweltkatastrophe), hauptsächlich über eine Smartphone-App, aber auch über andere Kanäle; Eigenschreibweise ist KATWARN. Seit 2011 ist Katwarn in Deutschland in verschiedenen Regionen, sowie auf Bundesebene im Einsatz. Die Anmeldung am System ist kostenlos und freiwillig und versorgt rund 2,5 Millionen Nutzer (Stand 2017). Seit 2017 gibt es Katwarn auch in Österreich. Die App steht weltweit in den App Stores für iPhone, Android und Huawei Phone zur Verfügung und kann daher auch von Ausländern in Deutschland und Österreich verwendet werden. Als EUWARN (Katwarn international) soll das System in der EU vermarktet werden. (de)
- EUwarn (proper spelling: EUWARN) – also KATWARN international – is a European warning and information system according to Article 110 EU Directive (EU) 2018/1972. EUwarn / Katwarn-international is used by the European Commission in Brussels and Luxembourg and by the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior to inform affected target groups via smartphone app in dangerous situations (e.g., major fires, power outages, terrorist attacks, or pandemics). The system is technically based on the KATWARN warning system, which has been in use in Germany since 2011, and is networked through roaming technology. (en)
